'Perverted Justice'
Spent my lunch hour Monday sitting in a San Fernando Valley apartment with a woman named Del while she chatted online with men who wanted to have sex with a '13-year old girl.'
Suffice to say, never had a lunch hour quite like that before nor have I had an interview like that during my seven years here at 'Access Hollywood.'
Not only was it eye opening, but as the father of two girls, it scared the beejeebers outta me.
Del was online, posing as a 13-year-old girl, and within seconds of logging on? she already had a 35-year-old man chatting with her. He thought she was 13 and home alone. Within 17 minutes, this 35-year-old man turned the chatting, with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl, to sex. Did I mention he's 35? And believes she's 13
Oh, and within those 17 minutes, THREE MORE MEN started chatting with this '13-year old.'
Del told me more than 50,000 predators are online at any given hour.
Let me explain Del' she is with perverted-justice.com and working with local law enforcement and 'Dateline NBC' on the continuing series 'To Catch a Predator'.
Del poses as a 13-year-old; men log on and want to meet for sex. They come to what they think is her house and she runs upstairs when they walk in' saying she'll be right down' and then out walks Dateline correspondent Chris Hansen? cameras rolling and... Bam! They're caught on tape.
These men are from all walks of life? even teachers and preachers. Cops are outside the door waiting to arrest them when they try to leave.
So, sitting in the apartment watching men online chatting, trolling for sex, my head started spinning. I realized, despite all of the 'good' the Internet is? it is also a predator playground. A playground with no one watching the kids.
So, I asked Del' who chats with these predators everyday? what advice she would give us parents.
Number one'
Never let your kids use the computer in their room. Never behind closed doors.
Always in the open.
She said if you allow your kid to go online behind closed doors, it's like taking your child to the city park AT MIDNIGHT and saying, 'have a good time, good luck' and I'll see you in the morning.'
She said be a parent, not a friend, and demand to see your kid's buddy list and have them identify each and every one.
Sure, they may be mad at you for a coupla days but think of the alternative.
Google: Kylie Taylor.
Read it.
And then hug your kids' with one eye on the computer screen.
