'Nip/Tuck' Returns
by Laura Saltman
It's so long Emmys and hello to the brand new TV season.
Number one on my list of can't miss shows is Nip/Tuck, which returns for season four on FX, on September 5th. The entire cast, minus Joely Richardson who was working in London, got together for a premiere party on Friday night where I grilled them for all the dirt on the new season. I will tell you now that there are a few spoilers from the mouths of the cast, guest stars and series creator. So, quit reading if you don't want to know.
The Carver is off somewhere in Spain with his equally creepy sister and they will hopefully never return. Without that very dark storyline, the show is back on track and hotter than ever. Brooke Shields guest stars as a therapist, Faith Wolper, who has Dr. Christian Troy questioning his own sexuality. This being Nip/Tuck, eventually Faith and Dr. Troy will be steaming things up and Brooke revealed to me, "I think that she is going to become a bit of a stalker."
Also on the guest list this year is JR Ewing aka Larry Hagman, Richard Chamberlain and Melissa Gilbert. Plus, before you will see him "Dancing with the Stars" you can catch Mario Lopez "showering in the buff" in an upcoming episode as a young, hot to trot plastic surgeon who has Dr.Troy feeling like an old man. I'm still picking my jaw up off the floor from the scene.
Rosie O'Donnell signed up to guest star after creator Ryan Murphy found out what a huge fan of the show she is. Rosie actually had called up the show's set decorator to come to her home and re-create the fish tank from the doctor's office. On the red carpet, at the premiere, she revealed she's got a Tom Cruise size crush on Julian McMahon, "I just love him to death. Look at him, he's like old time movie star perfect. Tommy I think will understand. He is that kind of loving guy... he needs to allow me my new crushes." Rosie would only give up that she plays a lottery winner, Dawn Budge, who comes to McNamara/Troy for a full body liposuction. However, Dylan Walsh revealed that Rosie will come back for a second episode, "She actually loses her ear later and we help her get a new ear."
As for my favorite docs this season, Dr. Sean and Julia will make a second go at their marriage now that Julia is pregnant with his child. That reunion will be deeply tested when its revealed that their baby will be born disabled. Dr. Troy meanwhile is dealing with the subconscious stirrings that his therapist has left in his mind, which will manifest itself in a whole lot of sex. After watching the first three episodes, I've seen more of Julian's backside then.. wait what am I trying to say here, this is not a bad thing. Be sure and check out the video from my interview with Julian, at the premiere, to see the special present I gave him to help him during all those love scenes.
Access Hollywood also had an exclusive invite inside the after party where I tracked down creator Ryan Murphy for some scoop, "This year we are sort of returning to the sex and comedy formula that I think made it so popular in seasons one and two." As for those subconscious stirrings that Brooke's therapist brings up in Dr. Troy, Murphy tells me, "Everybody thinks, after they see the first episode, is Christian gay' Is Christian gay' He's not gay. To me, the show has always been sort of a heterosexual love story between two men and I think what I was interested in exploring was how some men get so freaked out by intimacy with another man." I pressed him for some hot scoop that he would only give me and he told me, "Christian finally falls in love with a woman and has to make a choice between Sean and a woman." Hmmm. I'm intrigued. I can't wait to see more!
