Goodbye Jerry. We Won't Forget!
by guest blogger Bryant Huddleston
As I predicted, my boy Jerry Springer had to say "goodbye" this week on "Dancing With the Stars." To be honest, I wasn't surprised that the talk show host got so emotional. He loved this show. I think it took him by surprise just how much he loved it.
People loved him. The rednecks voted for him and so did a lot of America. The humor that he and Kym brought to the floor was refreshing. Monique Coleman told Access that Springer had become her best friend on the show. She even sent a warning to Jerry -- "I'm inviting myself over for Thanksgiving. I'll bring the macaroni."
I visited the "Heroes" set on Wednesday morning. They should change the motto of the show from "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World." To "Save the Cheerleader, Save the Network"! NBC needed this surprise gem.
It's the fourth time I've been there in the past month or so. But this time I got to hang with the hero everyone is talking about' the cheerleader. Seventeen year old Hayden Panettiere is a total spitfire. Fun, engaging, forthcoming, and beautiful. Her co-star (and leading man on the show) Milo Ventimiglia reeks sex appeal and old Hollywood. We were invited behind the scenes of their big scene together. The top secret scene airs in November.
Now I can't give anything away, but this pair of superheroes is certainly going to be fun to watch. It was intense and very bloody. Oh, and I ran into the actor that will play "Sylar," the series' much talked about villain. If you had already formed a picture in your head as to what he'd look like' think again. While I was there, I also found out that someone close to Claire is going to bite the dust soon and they'll stay dead. Claire's magical power won't be able to help this poor soul. No, it's not her dad (played so well by Jack Coleman). "Dynasty" fans will remember him as the second Steven Carrington.
Today, Genie Francis returns to "General Hospital," the show that made her a household name. Access Correspondent Shaun Robinson and I were the only media invited to her first day back on the set after a four year absence. The chemistry with Genie and her TV spouse, Tony Geary, is still there after twenty five years. They were huge in the early 80's. Thirty million people were in front of their tube for two afternoons in a row watching Luke and Laura tie the knot.
I admit I've watched "General Hospital" off and on since 1988. I didn't see the wedding, but I know their story and I know that these two actors are some of the best in Hollywood. She should have been handed an Emmy years ago. Tony's won several. She's been robbed over and over again. Unfortunately, she and Tony have been too labeled, too stamped "SOAP STAR" to branch into other acting projects. Casting agents don't see them as anything else. I'd love to see Genie get a guest spot on "Desperate Housewives."
So here's my plea to Desperado's ("Desperate Housewives") creator Marc Cherry: "Marc, watch Genie's scenes over the next week. She'll blow you away. She's got the chops to go up against any of your female ensemble. I think she'd be a great sister for Lynette. Just think about it."
Salty will be back on Monday. It's been fun ranting and raving over the past two weeks. One last time -- watch "Battlestar Galactica."
It's so fracking good!
