Dish of Salt

Backstage At The Globes

After freezing my little butt off outside on the red carpet for the last few hours I finally got the chance to go inside, grab some food and head straight to our one on one room.

Fortunately, its nice and warm in here and I've got a front row seat as the nominees come back to celebrate their wins…

VIDEO: Behind The Scenes At The Golden Globes With Laura!

8:23 pm - Grey's Anatomy the entire cast piles into our room. The couch isn't big enough for the whole bunch. Patrick Dempsey winds up sitting on the couch ledge. The cast chants for Executive Producer Shonda Rimes to do the dance heads. She sits down with Kate Walsh and James Pickens Jr. The cast is watching cheering them on with hoots and hollers. Outside the crowd watches the monitor in hysterics. Patrick Dempsey walks out and says "I'm done" and heads out. Kate Walsh remarks "that was embarrassing". This is the final interview of the night here backstage. Time to go hit the party circuit despite the fact that my feet are killing me!

8:1O I make a fool of myself doing the danceheads with Billy. Be sure and check out my scenes video tour this of what it takes to cover the Golden Globes this week on accesshollywood.com

8:OO We get word that Sacha Baron Cohen will not be coming back to do interviews. Bummer!

7:31 Salma Hayek, Executive Producer of "Ugly Betty" stands next to me to watch America on our live streaming web cast. I tell her to go on in and congratulate America and give her a slight push towards the door on her back. I'm lucky she goes in and doesn't smack me for being so pushy! America has been in our room for so long and utter chaos is going on outside the room as everyone is wigging out that she needs to wrap up. Salma walking in buys us a little more time. Nancy O'Dell brings Salma over to our green screen for the dance heads. Salma's publicist freaks out and says "I have to see it before you tape it." They put the green screen on her and the publicist nixes the whole idea. No sense of humor. People take themselves way too seriously.

7:21 Billy escorts winner for Best Actress in a Comedy, America Ferrera, into our room. Our camera rolls as they walk up. Her publicist freaks out and yells at one of the NBC production staff for letting a crew shoot her walking in because she is concerned America needs her makeup touched up. She looks beautiful to me. Her mom stands to the side and watches. Our camera keeps panning over and I have to duck out because I'm standing right behind her mom.

7:00 Eddie Murphy finishes up interviews and heads out. On they way he runs into a group of guys from the fire department and chats with them.

6:47 14 minutes after winning his award Alec Baldwin makes it back to the one on one are. He decides to take a break before the one on one interviews and grab some food. As he eating he sees Meryl Streep coming out and chases after her tapping her on the shoulder to congratulate her. I do a quick driveby and grab a slice of cantaloupe so I can spy on Alec and see what he is eating. Penne pasta with sundried tomatoes.

6:35 Emily Blunt, best supporting actress winner for "The Devil Wears Prada" is a great sport and plays along with Billy to The Danceheads and the song "Respect".

6:23 Alec Baldwin wins for "30 Rock". I'm timing how long it takes from the time he wins to the time he gets backstage for his interview. The first stop is the press photo room, then the press interview room, usually the bathroom and then our room.

6:17 Al Roker comes busting into our room from his Today Show room next door telling Billy "I'm gonna come over here and I'm going to kick your ass. ". He kids he kids. Our audio was bleeding over into their room. Billy ropes Al into doing the Danceheads dance with Billy to the song "Superfreak". Al remarks afterwards "wow that's freaky". Al leaves our room just in time to get Eddie Murphy as Meryl Streep breezes into our room. She leaves her award with a publicist which I get to touch and now I can say I've held Meryl Streep's Golden Globe.

6:12 Jennifer Hudson walks by grasping her Golden Globe in hand forty four minutes after she arrived at our one on one room for her first post one-on-one interview. That's a lot of talking! Kyra Sedgwick finishes as well and walks by a minute later breathing a sigh of relief.

6:09 Meryl Streep comes through. Everyone sitting in our one on one room gets in panic mode with someone yelling "standby guys, Meryl Streep is coming". She is walked first to the Today Show. A hush comes over the hallway as our entire staff goes quiet as this legend goes by.

5:56 Best actor in a drama, TV winner, Hugh Laurie comes straight into our one on one room and heads straight for the Danceheads. The entire room erupts in laughter as he and Billy bob their heads to the music. His publicist unlike Jennifer Hudson's is loving every second of it and laughs along with everyone else.

5:42 Supporting nominee winner Emily Blunt comes by. Her boyfriend, singer Michael Buble is holding the huge sign for her that's says she is the winner of the award. They walk together arm and arm.

5:38 Nominee for TNT's "The Closer", Kyra Sedgwick comes to our one on one room. She tells me while waiting to get mic'd "I'm just so in awe over this whole thing. "The audio guy gets a little too close and he apologizes and she laughs "I love when strange men touch me".

5:28 Supporting nominee winner Jennifer Hudson arrives at our one on one room for her interview. She stands at the door for at least a minute while our photographer finds a spot for the microphone. She gets on the phone with her mom and immediately starts crying. The producers walk out and ask for tissues. Billy goes over and sits with her to comfort her. We ask her to take part in our danceheads experiment. The green screen sheet goes on her but her publicist seems less than thrilled about the Danceheads and they don't do it. I bet if American Idol asked her to in season three she would have said yes. I'm afraid this whole experience may be going to her head. It's sad but it happens to the best of them.

5:21 Though Ellen Pompeo just lost to Kyra Sedgwick, all her castmates at her table, led by Patrick Dempsey, just toasted each other.

5:03 Jennifer Hudson wins for Dreamgirls. She is crying and so is Beyonce watching her speech. Hers is the first award. Now I know why the production were screaming for her on carpet to get her inside and too her seat.
