Director's Take: Cats, Britney, Anna & Balloons
Unrelated uplifting photo, as balloons only can be – see end of blog for description
My 5-year old Siamese cat, Sascha, was in the animal hospital for the past few days getting kitty bladder stones removed. I’ve been somewhat preoccupied with the situation this week and haven’t written much as a result. When my husband and I went to visit her the other night, after her initial delight at seeing us, she actually growled when she realized we weren’t taking her home. When we finally took her home two nights ago, with post-op instructions to keep her quiet, she and her protective 12.5 inch collar fled from the cat carrier and bulleted all over the place, so excited was this feral kitty to be home. She’s generally very frisky by nature and the only symptoms of her bladder condition were a certain lethargy that set in, and frequent, overly strained visits to the litter box. She’s recovering nicely now in the comfort of her own surroundings.
It’s harder to know when an animal is in need of help than a human. Cats, for instance, don’t shave their heads bald in front of the world. Nor do they check in and out and in and out and in to rehab once the buzzing is done, or flail a car with an umbrella. They also don’t paint their faces like a clown and behave on camera as if they were on drugs. Generally, they don’t have bottles of methadone in the fridge next to the Slimfast & Trimspa, either.
Yes, it’s easier to notice when a human is in need of help. We’re quite boisterous about asking for it, but few have the eyes to see. Too often the cries of those in need are not heard. We prefer to look the other way because intervention is messy and another person’s angst can be at times oddly entertaining to the masses. It is the tragedy of our age that we don’t help each other more, that many of us simply don’t care, and that our lack of caring is always at the expense of someone or something which later may end up as front page news. So it is with the continuing tragic sagas of Britney Spears and Anna Nicole Smith. Where were their loved ones when they needed them most? How does a person spiral downward to such an extent and no one even notices until it’s too late?
I can’t believe what’s going on with Britney and Anna, and how sad, even pathetic, it is on so many levels. With Britney, the obvious cries for help – what happened to her these last few mother-bearing years anyway? And the three ring circus in Florida with Sideshow Seidlin, and now the Judge Korda baby custody battles. Then there are the three stooges Virgie-Larry-Howard, and now even Mo. Is this stuff for real? I’m left with a lot of questions about our world’s obsession with another person’s demise.

And now from the Access Archive: here are some unrelated stage photos of a balloon drop we did a while back. It was for Prom Week. As we never used the drop during the show – owing to the usual time constraints – we had a blast dropping them on top of the crew!
To whom it may concern
I did not know where to put this . Ijust watched the Video with Brittney going to the Doc. I wish you guys would not show stuff like that it makes you guys look like TMZ not a respected Entertainment news show. There was no news in Brittney going to the doc and the way the Video was taking you could tell it was a paparazzi who took it. I really hope you guys did not pay for that . You all are better then that. You Guys made a big deal about it when ET was going to show that Video of Ledger so dont stoop that low and pay the paparazzi for just a worhtless video . I really like the show !!!!
