Director’s Take – Baby Phat’s Kimora Lee
Kimora Lee Simmons was on our stage last month with the latest from her Baby Phat line of clothing and new couture line KLS. We had a brief fashion show and an interview. Maria also did some standups with her.
The clothing speaks for itself. Baby Phat is an offshoot of estranged husband Russell Simmons’ line of clothing called Phat Farm. When he founded the Baby Phat brand, he named Kimora as the creative director. They split in 2006, but still work together, according the their respective websites.
In case you didn’t know much about Russell Simmons, he is Def Jam Records and responsible for mainstreaming rap in the ‘80s which led to the popularity of a lot of the Hip-Hop we hear today.
Kimora is stunning and in person even prettier as a lot of on camera personalities are. It works the other way, too, of course. Some people look worse in person than they do on camera and when you see them you think, “Oh my, what lighting and makeup can do.” Not the case with Kimora. She’s gorgeous.
