Cannes' Belle Of The Ball

Bonjour Access fans,

It's about 7:00am Cannes time and today will be my first official day here. I'm heading to the Croisette, home of the American Pavilion (the hot spot of the action for celebrity sightings and screenings) and our Access Hollywood home away from home. So what else do I have planned?

Currently, I'm combing through two different papers with CNN international on in the background. I'm reading the International Herald in English and trying to recall my days of high school French with the Nice Matin (a local French paper), doing much better than I thought I would.

Today's belle of the ball--the always stunning Juliette Binoche (pictured), one of the most famglamulous French actresses in America for her role in "Chocolat." She will be on the Croisette promoting a low budget 3 million Euros film called "Le Voyage du ballon Rouge" or "The Journey of the Red Balloon," an interpretation of a famous children's story. Never fear, Squarini is here, and if there is a picture of the belle to be had WE SHALL have it.

Next up, although the David Fincher film "Zodiac" has already been released at home, who can resist the temptation of trying to capture those baby blues on Jake Gyllenhaal. AND, the even bigger question, should we expect Reese? I'll be sure to keep an eye out to report back on these pressing concerns.

Here's an interesting tidbit...famed pop folk singer Norah Jones is starring in a movie that opened the festival called "My Blueberry Nights". The first English language feature directed by Wong Kar Wai. Who, might you ask, is lucky Norah's co-star? Here's a hint... his last name rhymes with raw. Got it yet? That's right...Mr. Jude Law himself. Now, how lucky did Norah get? The director served as President of the jury at 2006 Cannes festival, but her film also stars Natalie Portman, Rachel Weisz, and Academy award nominee David Strathairn for George Clooney's "Good Night, and Good Luck." The movie itself is receiving mixed reviews on this side of the continent but hey, who cares because the fortunate Norah gets blueberry pie and Jude; plus for us, the sightings could be just fabu.

I thought I should take a little moment to discuss my fashion expectations for the day. Valentino, Dior, Galliano, and big time jeweler Chopard is EVERYWHERE - and I mean everywhere -- here. Nothing I read, here on TV, or even saw checking in didn't scream designer. Seeing these creations in person today should only be breath taking. I'm sure you will be the first to see them in our photo galleries. I don't even think I need to recall my high school French to translate the words chic, elegant, and haute couture.

Until later today....

Squariana

You should check out Albert Lamorisse's classic Le Ballon rouge (1956). Bincohe’s film is a loose remake.

I hope you're enjoying the vin!
