Is LaKisha hiding a Secret?
And then there were three. It's down to Melinda Doolittle, Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis. This is exactly how I picked it in the office American Idol pool. Only two of us remain in the running. I have Melinda to win and the other person has Jordin to win. Personally, I think it could either way. I never in a million years expected LaKisha Jones to get this far. Who was voting for her? She could not have a bigger fan base than Chris Richardson and certainly not Sanjaya. Yet, somehow she stuck around each and every week despite never quite living up to that very first week when she nailed "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going."
So, what happened since Top 24 week (when she sang that song) that her true potential never came through. In a conference call with reporters this morning LaKisha said her downfall was having to sing different genres each week, "I think I did the best with what I was given."
This was just not her week. She waited until Saturday to pick her songs because she did not like any of the material. Her throat was giving her problems, "I'm hoarse right now and I tried to sing past my hoarseness and of course on American Idol you can't say my voice is jacked up."
To top it all off the the dry cleaners accidentally destroyed her original outfit, "It was actually a blouse. Oh god, it just messed me up because I, in my mind, when you go on stage you become this character." Her backup dress just wasn't cutting it
After the show Simon Cowell gave her a boost, "He told me that he was really proud of me and that he knows I'm going to have a successful career."
As for her future plans after the tour, things are still up in the air but the one thing she is most looking forward to is buying a home, "I don't want to rent ever again. I just can't wait to get the keys and let my baby run around."
LaKisha has always said that she did this show so she and her daughter, 4-year -old Brionne, could have a better life. She has never said why their life was so hard. Note at the end of last night's goodbye video she teared up at the end and said "everyone has a story" which led me to believe hers has yet to be told. When asked about it this morning she simply replied, " Everyone has a story and no one knows mine like I do." One reporter pushed her a bit further and asked when we would hear that story and she chuckled and said, "Maybe in a movie."
I can hear the folks at Lifetime dialing up screenwriters now. Just what in LaKisha's life would make it worthy of a movie though? From the sound of her interview on the conference call this morning, I'm not sure we will ever know. LaKisha is a woman of few words. I only hope the tabloids don't decide to go digging because I'm sure whatever it is LaKisha would want to put it out there herself and not be beat to the punch. Maybe it's nothing. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but my woman's intuition tells me it's not.
Here's her take on the final three:
Jordin - "She's so doggone cute and she just has a wonderful spirit about herself."
Blake - "Blake keeps me going. He was really cool and he has originality and personality."
Melinda - "Melinda, oh my god, that girl has so much spirit and soul."
Lakisha should not have been voted off. Blake should have been the one to go. And now I hope America votes right. I believe it'll be between Melinda and Jordin and I hope Jordin wins. However, Melinda, Jordin and Lakisha will get picked up because they are talented and very very good.
