Paula's Bizarre Time Out

Comments (3)

So, while I was at home resting my injured shoulder and watching "American Idol" from my couch... wincing more at Jordin Sparks misstep last night then from my own pain... My friend and Access Hollywood producer, Bryant Huddleston, was having a strange encounter with Idol judge Paula Abdul.

As I've mentioned before, "Dancing with the Stars" and Idol tape at the same studio. They overlap on Tuesday nights. Just behind the CBS studio where both shows tape is a popular outdoor mall called The Grove that has lots of restaurants.

After each of the shows wrap many of the audience members, show staff and press will go grab a bite to eat. This is where Paula and Bryant collided.

Here is his own personal account of what went down...

After I left the "Dancing with the Stars" results show last night and saw John Ratzenberger get the proverbial boot, I met up with a good friend for a little bite to eat at LA's "The Grove". Little did I know that when I went for a quick restroom stop, I would have my own personal and extremely odd Paula Abdul moment. Ok. Here's what happened. So I rounded the corner to find this very petite brunette woman clutching her purse in front of her and literally stuck in the corner, inches from the wall, her back to me and staring straight ahead-no movement just staring off in space. I thought to myself this woman is having her own personal "time-out". Now let me remind you, I didn't have a clue at the time who she was. I looked back once I passed the mystery lady only to see her turn away from me and slowly walk away. I thought to myself "That was strange. hmmm. I wonder if it was a celebrity? Did she purposely stand there so I wouldn't see who she was? Was she hoping she would blend into the wall like a chameleon to avoid being spotted? "

A minute later, I'm heading back to my table but with a mission. I've got to find the small framed dark haired lady with the navy jacket to find out who this mystery wall clinger is. Within seconds, I found her. There in a secluded private dining area with two gentleman at her table was Paula Abdul. Straight up! Today I'm left with questions. Why did Paula send herself to time out? Is Paula cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs? And why can't I have more of these moments when I go out? I definitely need to get out more.

This reminds of the fact that I miss the bizarre Paula on "Idol." Can we have her back please? Now that Sanjaya is gone don't we need her to start rambling on about moths and frosted flakes and moonbeams?

I really don't see or hear, Paula, talking "weird"? she, gives good comments on the singer's. I might just have a whimsical sense of humor.

It's not half as weird as you're trying to make it. Maybe she just needed a moment. You probably have no idea what it's like, never to have a second to yourself without someone trying to make
an issue out of everything you say and do.
