Pondering Paris' Plight

Comments (24)

It is hard not to be pleased with the Paris Hilton sentencing of 45 days in county jail. Let it be submitted that It is wrong to derive pleasure from someone else's penalty, especially if you believe that God is always watching and rejects jealousy and vindictiveness.

But my sense of relief stems from this:

I have three young daughters and its important to me that they learn about consequences. Paris has created a high profile for herself and somewhere along the way it seems an aura of invincibilty crept in. She is surrounded by sycophants, parents included, who are quick to defend and slow to reason. Accountabilty is for others. They say she's a victim of her own high profile, and that she was and has for a long time been singled out by law enforcement because she's 'Paris'.

Hmmmm.

I think it will be hard to convince people into feeling badly for her stake in life..and they might if she was even partly known for good deeds of any kind.

When Paris tried to explain to the judge that the reason she was driving when she had a suspended license was all due to a miscommunication with her "publicist", she exposed herself: what judge can relate to a life where publicists control and plot the course? HE doesn't have one!

She lives in a bubble.

This woman is famous for a sex tape that circled the internet. She was outraged but then ended up profiting rather quickly. not what most personally invaded victims do? Most people have seen the viral video footage of Paris using racial and homophobic slurs....it goes on and on. She has accrued NO good will.

So....That the furtive 'Hilty' is not above the law is not only good to know but a bit of salvation for us all.

Will the sentence stand now that Paris' appeal has been filed?

She usually gets off, and in the end, becomes even more (in)famous than before....if the judge really wanted to make 'Hilty' feel it, he would have taken the paparazzi away....

YEA Billy! If Governor Schwarzenegger pardons her then CA needs a new Governor! A PARDON FOR A DUI, DRIVING WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED, NO HEADLIGHTS ON AND A 2ND DWLS??? GET REAL PARIS! She may have more money but she is NO BETTER than the rest of us. So if any DUI driver "tells the truth" to the judge and says "I didn't know" in a little baby voice, then why shouldn't they get a pardon, too??? QUIT WHINING PARIS - SEE YOU IN 45 DAYS!!

I believe Paris Hilton has earned her jail time to the fullest. If it was just an average person it would be no mercy,so why should it be that way for the rich. No she did not hurt anyone yet but the law is the law. She is not about it. And with the her loose lips using the "N" I really don't have sympathy.

I think that Ms Paris got what she deserved, she has to learn just cause she has Money, she CANNOT buy her way out of anything in life. She is not Legal to drive and got caught, now she needs to pay the price like anyone else would have too.I think 45 days is not enough. She really needs to learn a Lesson

Paris is no better than the rest of us and should receive her pushment just as we would if it were one of us. Just because shes rich and famous doesn't mean she is above the law. I dont feel sorry for her. And she can't blame anyone but herself. Is she that stupid she doesnt know its against the law to drive without a license. Grow up and stop being a spoiled brat!

I think it is ridiculous that Paris is not able to stand and do the time she has to. She's lucky that the Judge didn't give her more time. This was her third offense and she seems to want to pass the buck. Face it be grown about it. Do the time DWI is a very serious offense.

I just wanted to ask all those people who think Paris should not serve 45 days in jail for breaking her probation for DUI. What would the right amount of time if while she was driving drunk she hit and killed your brother, sister parents or child. I believe that no matter who you are or how much you have(money , fame), if you drink and drive then you go to jail. She needs to get real.

I can stand it no longer-If this person stands for the "hope of the young" then we may as well throw in the towel now. And then the poor sap that is saying she had no idea her license was not valid!! The entire thing is so sad that we as Americans would support this whole thing by airng it on TV night after night after night and even more sad that the girl is so terribly desparate for attention that she would resort to the things she's done.
Oh, by the way- where is the petition to SUPPORT the decision to make her accountable for her own actions???????

I agree with the statement made above by Debby. To many times the rich and famous try to use it for breaks on breaking the law. Regular people don't get that. Let alone if they break the laws they would not get special treatment like so many "celebrities" get in jail.

Although I doubt this will happen-I hope she uses her time alone to reflect on
the real value of her life.

I hope she understands the reason she is going to jail.

If those who love her can't seem to guide this poor empty soul through the stumbles she makes in her life, then at least now she can sit in her cell and try to figure it out on her own.

Paris Hilton away from the media for 45 days: THAT'S HOT!

Paris you made your bed---now lay in it!

It's about time you face the consequences of your actions.

Take it like the big ho that you are.

Give me a break! You break the law, you suffer the consequences. Paris Hilton doesn't know the meaning of earning a hard day's pay. She sets a very poor example to the youth of today. All she knows is spend, party, spend, party, spend, party!!! And her mother is also a poor example. Mrs. Hilton, do you really think you & your family is above the law??

Lets not forget about the parents who had at least some role in raising this woman child..
The mother lives through her child, The father tags along on a leash.
They contribute nothing to this planet and have the means to make some wonderful positive changes.

Dose Kathy Hilton really think we tax payers want to pay for a private cell? For the extra security it will take to make sure Paris is safe? no we do not. But it needs to be done.

You know, if it were any of us who had done the same crime-we would do the time. Does Paris really think anyone is going to fall for the "I didn't know" routine? Give me a break. She isn't sorry, only that she got caught and sorrier since Daddy's money can't buy her out of it. Suck it up, rich girl! The rest of the world would have to, and there are no exceptions just because you look like a cute little chihuaha. Tell me again-what are you famous for?

Paris just needs go get off her lazy butt, and just like a regular person who gets a DUI and breaking probation. Paris become an adult just like the rest of us who have been is that position...JUST GO TO JAIL. QUIT WHINING!!!

Bye, Bye party girl!! Welcome to the real world!!!!

Paris should be lucky she did not get cited in Placer Co, CA. I received my first DUI there (I'm in my 50's) and I was fined $3000, 30 days in jail, SB38 (18 months) DUI school, suspended license, and 3 years probation. I learned my lesson. Will Paris learn hers if she doesn't do the "time for the crime"???? She's young and 45 days out of her life is nothing compared to a life being saved in the future.

Beheka said:

Everyone crying for Paris is misguided. People need to think of the bigger "issue" here. What if instead of being pulled over and taken to jail she drove her car into your house or something and by doing that killed someone you loved .. you sure wouldnt be trying to save her then would you!!!

This Paris Hilton mess really needs to stop.honestly we all know she uses drugs get's drunk and thinks she can get away with these things.all I can do is hope whike she does this time she wakes the hell up she has the whole world in her hands and keeps messing it up i'm 29 raising 4 kids and have so many problems in my life but i have yet to drive drunk and cry woa is me over any wrond things Ive done in my life.while she's in jail she needs to make aa meetings because she has a proble you have a problem when you can tell yourself it's ok to drink and drive get caught and then do the same thing again.she needs to grow up and take her punishment already and stop crying .she didn't cry when she got beind the wheel.TIME TO GROW UP Paris, and be a woman money can buy drinks and pay bail it can't change a sentence.

Her 15 mins are up. The worst thing for her is not jail it would be NO photosharks waiting for her at her door and every move she makes. It is a sad day in America when she is plastered everywhere for nothing worth while. I would love to see the up and coming up actors that do good things. Please stop giving her the time of the day! When you do it only helps promote her worthless to the young.

Like many other people, i don't like Paris very much. In fact i really really dislike her person.
but the issue here is not about Paris going to jail or not, i definitely think she deserver to server time especailly knowing she repeatedly put herself in a situation where many live could hvae been destroyed because of her dangerous act.
Although, Paris is not a bad person. yes she despise other people just because they might play in the "same league" than her, but she's not a criminal. And more, she's not the only celebrity found giulty of driving under the influence and/or with a suspended licnece, even though most of them have the choice of doing some community service, or eventually spend some "quality time" in that so called place REHAB. Paris had no choice, she was immediatly convicted.
Plus 45 days in prison might not seem like a long period of time, but for someone who's looked at one of the most hated person on the planet, in fact i think even the so criticised President Bush has more popularity than she'll ever have, it will be a difficult her to get through this.
So does she deserve to go to jail? Yes she does, she needs to face her responsibilities. But she certainly doesn't deserve to 45 days...

Billy, thank you for the interview you did with her parents were you asked them when they will hold her accountable for her actions? I enjoyed watching the "deer in the headlights" look they gave you. I hope all the comments will show your daughters that being productive ad accountable citizens gets you further than using Mom and Dad's money.
