DOS: More 'Dancing' News

When it comes to "Dancing with the Stars", ABC always likes to throw a few members of the family into the mix. This year three of the twelve dancers have ABC ties. First, there is Cameron Mathison who plays Ryan Lavery on ABC's "All My Children". Then there is Sabrina Bryan who is part of Disney's wildly popular “Cheetah Girls" franchise. There is also Mark Cuban who starred in the very short-lived reality show for "ABC" called "The Benefactor." Remember that one? Probably not. Regular Dish readers know I'm a huge DWTS fan. So, lets dish about the twelve new contestants and their dance partners.
Jane Seymour showed she has got some spunk in that very funny jaw-dropping scene in "Wedding Crashers" where she flashed her private parts to Owen Wilson. "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman", what are you doing! Poor lady, because I know that for the next couple of weeks that is all anyone is going to be asking her about, "how shocked were you about Owen?" I'd rather talk about the fact that she is 56 years old and tackling this huge challenge. Can you see her doing the cha cha? Jane's paired up with Tony Dovolani who danced with Leeza Gibbons last season. He must know how to work the older women.
It's been known for a few weeks now that Jennie Garth would participate. She must have gotten the fever when she watched her "Beverly Hills, 90210" classmate, Ian Ziering last year. She may have her work cut out for her. She's dancing with a brand new addition, Derek Hough, who happens to be the brother of last season’s winner, Julianne Hough. He's just as cute and just as blonde as her.
You can bet one person who will not be coming to cheer on Melanie Brown, aka Scary Spice, will be Eddie Murphy. Mel's filling the role that others have held in the past of controversial newsmaker and mom trying to lose the baby weight. She may have a leg up on the competition (pun intended) since she was a Spice Girl and they did actually do some dance moves. Plus, she starred in "Rent" on Broadway. She's also got a great dance partner in Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who helped take Laila Ali to top three last season.
Marie Osmond. She's a little bit country but can she dance? Well, she did do a lot of that on her variety series, "Donny and Marie." Once an ABC show, hmm. She's teaming up with Jonathan Roberts who flipped around Heather Mills last season. I don't see Marie landing any cartwheels anytime soon since she is 47 years old. You never know, though.
Two-time champ, Cheryl Burke, has her work cut out for her, too. She's teaming up with Mr. Las Vegas, "Wayne Newton." He's a great entertainer no doubt but at retirement age, he's 65, he'll have to really step it up to compete against the younger guys.
Case in point, 30-year-old Floyd Mayweather. If Laila Ali's skills gave any indication about how boxers can dance then Floyd could be quite the contender. He's got the very determined Karina Smirnoff (girlfriend and former partner to Mario Lopez) as his dance partner. She's a spitfire and doesn't take crap from anyone.
I had no idea who male model Albert Reed was so I looked him up online. The first picture on his website is him on a couch, shirt off with a hat covering his face. So, really who cares who he is. He's hot. His job as a model has apparently helped him meet some A-list stars. There is great photo of him with George Clooney on his website. The best news is that he will be dancing with Anna Trebunskaya. This cutie hasn't been partnered with anyone since she took Jerry Rice to the top two in season two. She's also the wife of Jonathan Roberts.
I remember seeing Sabrina Bryan at the "High School Musical 2" premiere. I had no clue who she was until someone said she was a Cheetah Girl. Disney Channel always has to get one of their people on the show. Last year, Billy Ray Cyrus represented "Hannah Montana", the year before Monique Coleman stepped out for "HSM." She'll bring in some younger viewers but I doubt Sabrina has the same appeal as them. When I asked my Executive Producer's 8-year-old daughter, Taylor, if she knew who Sabrina was from Cheetah Girls she said no. She knew the Cheetah Girls, just not Sabrina. This makes me question her popularity. Isn't this her demographic? She's really got her work cut out for her. She has a partner who is a newcomer, Mark Ballas.
Soon to be married dancers Edtya Sliwinska and Alec Mazo will both be dancing this season again. In case anyone was wondering, they will be tying the knot this weekend on September 1st. Alec is paired up with model Josie Maran who probably is most well known for being the girlfriend of David Blaine right around the time he froze himself in that block of ice outside of "Good Morning America." Do I know the most useless facts or what? Edtya is partnering up with Cameron Mathison. With her sick body and his long lean good looks those two are going to be quite the couple to beat. That is if he can dance.
Aussie girl, Kym Johnson, for the past two seasons, has been partnered with the funny guy. First Jerry Springer then Joey Fatone. I've never met Mark Cuban but somehow I don't see this 49-year-old entrepreneur and owner of the Dallas Mavericks tickling too many funny bones.
Finally, last season's winner Julianne Hough (with Apolo Anton Ohno) gets to go round the dance floor this season with another athlete, Helio Castroneves. I can't pronounce his name and I've never heard of him. Here's what I know. He's Brazilian and he won the Indianapolis 500 twice. So, we know he drives fast but is he light on his toes? We'll have to wait and see.
ABC is dragging out the premiere over three nights. Monday September 24th the female celebrities will dance. The next night the men will dance and then on Wednesday someone will be eliminated. Any guesses on who will be the first to go?
I'm loving me some Jennie Garth this season!
I love Julianne I think she is a great dancer and I cant wait to see how her and her partner do this season. Although I may cheer for Mel B because I signed up online for the Spice Girls reunion show tickerts, and I am hoping by voting for her it will bring me good luck to actually win the tickets. hahaha
While it is interesting to see who wins it is just fun watching the dancing.
