Britney's VMA Debacle & Who Saved The Show

I stayed away from Vegas and the MTV VMA’s (look, I feel I dodged a bullet or two in surviving NBA All-Star Weekend in Vegas last February) and thought I’d safely check it out 300-miles away on my 63-inch HD television here in LA.
It’s now 9:10PM Pacific, on Sunday night and I can tell you I have never watched a more painful 10-minutes of an award show in my life. I’ve seen some debacles, but THIS is a DEBACLE.
Have you ever seen those reality shows where they get a person who idolizes some singer, they prep her, get her to look like her idol and then let her perform one of her idol’s songs? And she does it badly?
I thought that’s what I had tuned into at 9PM instead of the VMA’s.
I saw someone who kinda looked like Britney, sorta-maybe moved like her, looked nervous, unsure and clueless – you know, like that reality, wannabe-like-your-idol TV show?
The reality was it WAS Britney. I looked at my wife and said, “Britney knows she’s supposed to be lip-syncing, right?”
Awful. Just awful. To throw away an opportunity to show the world she’s back and better than ever was not lost on the faces of the artists in the audience. And to see it in 63-inches of crystal clear high definition made it obvious this was not the defining moment Britney was hoping for -- not by a long shot.
How ironic is it that in the first 30-minutes of the show you have two people, who used to be so in love, careers on fire back in the day now so obviously going in opposite directions.

And could host Sara Silverman have brought the show to a screeching halt any faster?
I’m used to MTV’s awards shows being poorly produced, uneven and, many times, even boring. But there was always something “incredible” -- in a good way, to talk about. It’s 9:41PM and this has to be the worst, from a viewing standpoint.

Or did he just look so good ‘cause it’s been so bad?
Nah…his medley was great…WOW!
As for our show, Access Hollywood, there is plenty of material for our show tomorrow.
Not the least of which is the Tommy Lee and Kid Rock fracas.

i think that BRITNEY SPEARS did a good job at the vmas. i think that it wasn't her best performance. i was expecting something like "wow" and tht didn't wow me. i do like the song and i also think that she was pretty shy too like this was the first time that she is doing a live performance. i know she was nervous but i think it could've been better. It was good!GO BRITNEY YOU CAN DO IT!
I still love Britney, but you could totally tell she was more nervous then ever. she was looking for acceptance again from her peers and got some encouragement but alot of flack(sara silverman) what a bitch! she was to much, nobody wanted to hear her, there wasn't one laugh after her britney "joke." I want to see Britney again, love the song. who cares what everyone thinks get out there and rock it.
i really don't even know what to say about britney's performance, or about the entire show for that matter. i think that britney did a bad job, and sarah silverman was right when she said that britney had already accomplished everything that she's going to. To me the entire show looked like one big party and every once in a while they would hand out awards. As far as an awards show goes, I wasn't impressed; however, it did look like a lot of fun and I so wish I could have been in Justin's suite partying with him! Also, is it just me or did a lot of the celebs look totally trashed? Like wasn't Jamie Fox having a conversation with Diddy while he was supposed to be anouncing an award? And didn't someone chug a beer while accepting their award? Crazy night in Vegas.
Britney did it to herself... as for lipsynching ...its not the first time...everyone knows that so I dont know whats the big deal....her dancing...? terrible..for Britney.It looked like she did'nt know where she was at. Then Sara Silverman was terrible...I don't have a clue why she was aloud to speak on T.V...she is not amusing at all....who is she anyway...where did she come from..originate? Hopefully not as a comedian....I was very suprised at the opening of the show...Alicia Keys was excellent!
I agree with you. It was painful to watch and I actually found myself feeling sorry for her. Her heart isn't in it. Maybe she should go somewhere where she can be out of the spotlight, a good mom and make some life decisions. I thought Sara Silverman was very cruel and it may have been part of the timing of her stand-up. I felt so bad for Brittany and then Sara stands up and slams her. It was awful to watch. I turned it off at 9:30.
WHAT AN INSULTING PERFORMANCE BY BRITNEY-Can someone close to this woman, look her in the eye and be honest with her and tell her--She Sucks!!!!!
BRITNEY's comeback should've been tested at the local high school talent show first.
MTV totally miss judge her abilities, what a disappointment.
Chris Brown was amazing!
I am tired of all of the Britney bashing. All of the nasty comments by the morning news shows and Sarah Silverman’s insults were rude, nasty and very unnecessary but I guess these news shows and Sarah Silverman count on bashing others to get ratings instead of offering real talent and real news. Regardless of what people expected, Britney still looked amazing and has made a great comeback. Perhaps her comeback did not fit into your preconceived notions but it was still a great comeback considering where she was last year. If any of you nasty and hurtful people think that you can do better maybe you should contact MTV to open the show next year. Small minded insecure people bash others to make themselves feel better.
It was unfortunate to say the least. This was Britney's time to shine. She has always given command performances at the VMAs and this was so removed from what she had done in the past. The show was pretty much a train wreck. I stopped watching pretty early on, but was happy to catch Chris Brown's performance online. The night's saving grace. Such poor production on MTV's part. I used to look forward to the show, but now it is a non-event. Thanks Tony, your commentary was dead on tonight!

Oh my goodness..I was with you all the way Tony! Chris, Rihanna, Alicia, and the big number at the end saved the show. (Or what was left of it...) I've noticed the past few VMA's have been aweful. And Silverman's comments were just plain evil..not near the level of comic genius of past hosts, (like Chris Rock). She's a jerk..Poor Britney, I think she was just a pawn in MTV's ratings game

Her performance at the VMA's started okay with the Britney insults, she went a little soft on Paris but then what was all that stuff about diarreah....WAS SHE BEING CENSORED!!!
Chris Brown was totally amazing...you can tell the hunger he has in him for this business. (Funny that's how Britney was when she performed for the first time on the VMA's)
The Chicago Tribune had a front page edition that read:
TELE TUBBY, it showed Britney with her belly sticking out of her bikini outfit--so funny!!!
Brit would do better if she would take a real moment and take a big breath, and start all over again. He big mistake in coming back....acting like cutting her hair was a mistake....she should have owned it, wore it and rocked it!! Kevin is a jerk...money hungry no good for nothing man. Brit needs to get away from all of that mess, be a mom, be a full grown woman, put everyone in their place, and call it a day. Get out of the spot light, get your business off the street....Use your money to help yourself and your kids, and screw everyone else. Kill the clubs and all night parties, get a real friend and not the hollywood friends....its all "play-play" in hollywood. Pull it together Brit!
Saw a piece on Kevin the other day on extra-he is working on some project where he plays a rock star....I can't believe I'm going to say this but-he looks kind of sexy when he is working and not acting like a punk. Maybe he'll clean up his image and turn it around instead.

i feel sorry for Britney i think she needs help she is a little lost at the moment she needs to get her prioritys right cant her family help her or her agent or somebody i think all the fame went to her head being that she is so young, but i think with a little help she can get it together
Britney looked like she should be striped naked, hog tied and roasted on stage with an apple in her mouth.

AWEEEE EWWWWW Brit suxed big time, but we all knew she was a train waiting to werck. most ppl do it in private but NO she had to do it in public and the most veiwed intertainmnet show possible. well I wasnt intertained. but this too shall pass next yr it will be someone eles life shatter on tv and the press will deliver the sad mishapps and we the public will eat it up for a yr. She clearly wasnt ready. she was fresh out of rehab and nights out shopping and fast food\, parties and trying to arrange visits with her childeren while dealing with a ex. and with being known as a X mouseakateer no wonder hy the girl is screwed up...Someone should have stopped the girl. whats next a stint at Penthouse?? if she doesnt stop we'll be reading her obits. and reading what a tragic end to such a beautyful life.. while ppl ar e holding a candle light vigil another life begins and ends just like her. and we'll just find something eles to munch on to have with our moring coffee. come one ppl we have things in OUR own PERSON lives are we that demented that we need to watch some spin out of controll... is that what makes you happy?
