'Dancing' Kicks Off On A High Note

So, lets start with the bad news first. Two male hosts does not work for me. Drew Lachey did a great job filling in for Samantha Harris (who gave birth to a baby girl Sunday morning) backstage but he and Bergeron together on stage just seemed weird. On the opposite coin... hello Girl Power! Is it just me or is this the best group of female dancers right out of the gate? Quite an impressive bunch. Let's break it down and dish up some backstage dancing dirt.

Jane Seymour - This 56-year-old Bond girl proved she has still got it. Twirling around in her pink dress she really did look like an English Rose. She did a great job with the Foxtrot but it will be interesting to see how she handles those fast Latin dances and those skimpy outfits. I want to look that beautiful at her age and according to Jane it's all natural. She confessed to us backstage she contemplated going under the knife. Jane admitted, "Before I started this I thought oh god maybe I should do plastic surgery but I thought no. I'm gonna be the only honest woman out there. I'm going out with my own wrinkles and my own little tummy where the babies were. I'll just go and do it."

Jennie Garth - Is it just me or does little miss "Beverly Hills, 90210" still look exactly the same as when she played Kelly Taylor? Her Cha Cha was pretty darn good for a first effort and considering she was up first. Some of her facial expressions were painful to watch though. Her cute husband, Peter Facinelli, was in the audience and told us he had "David Hasslehoff crocodile tears" streaming down his face. He's also a fan of the new body dancing has given his wife, "I said it's like I got a new car!"

Marie Osmond - She's a little bit country (ok, last time I use that joke) and a little bit nervous on the dance floor but Marie Osmond sure looked like she was having fun. Her Foxtrot was a little rough but not surprisingly the judges praised her because she had that big smile on her face the whole time and gave it her best effort. Her biggest problem on this show may be time. Besides having eight kids, I know that she is currently working on a Christmas album so her rehearsal time is limited. Last night she revealed that her brother, Donny, has a huge crush on Jane, "Donny is voting for Jane Seymour which really ticks me off!" I think she is kidding but it doesn't matter she'll get a ton of votes on name recognition alone. She also told us she just started NutriSystem and has between that and dancing lost three inches around her midsection. Soon she'll be a little bit skinny. Ok, no seriously that's the last time I use "the little bit" jokes.

Melanie Brown - Seriously, did this girl really just have a baby five months ago? She did pretty well with her Cha Cha but she still didn't hold a candle to Maksim's last partner, Laila Ali. Although last night Max told us Mel picks up the steps faster than any other partner he has had on the show. I think she's going to have an uphill battle trying to win over voters though.

Josie Maran - This poor girl is definitely going to be on the chopping block. I thought she actually did better than the judges gave her credit for on her Foxtrot. She already knows she has her work cut out for her. When I talked to her at a rehearsal she and Alec admitted her fan base will be tiny. Her only chance may be if one of the guys has a misstep and she gets to stick around another week. She's cute and fun and if viewers got to know her she may be able to squeak by a few more weeks.

Sabrina Bryan - This girl has certainly got the fan base. I saw her at the HSM2 premiere and fans were going nutso for her. I knew she would be a great dancer since dancing is part of her life as a Cheetah Girl. I didn't know she would be such a little powerhouse though! What a little dynamo. Her Cheetah counterparts were right there front and center in the audience cheering her on. Adrienne Bailon told us, "She rocked the house tonight! Gave me chills. I was having a heart attack out there." Kiely Williams could barely contain herself, "I wanted to run out on stage and hug her as soon as she finished. It took everything in me just to like sit down!"

We'll see tonight if any of the guys have the same effect.
