Is 'Dancing' Cursed?
![]()
As I was standing in the hallway last night waiting to interview Barry Manilow, I should have noticed someone was missing. Whizzing by me every few moments I saw all the celebs and their dance partners. Marie Osmond yelled out a "Break a leg" to one of her opponents, Julianne Hough gave me a hug, Sabrina Bryan flashed a smile and Derek Hough ran by with no shirt (yummy!).
I saw Jane Seymour's dance partner, Tony Dovolani (and others), wearing their 50's costumes and knew instantly the encore dance at the top of show would be the group dance. In fact, during my interview with Barry, he mentioned having spoken to Jane and how amazed he was by her body at 56-years-old. It never dawned on me that in the 30 minutes I was backstage, I never once saw Jane.
So, it was a shock when I heard she was not there and had food poisoning. Jennie Garth's tumble… Marie's collapse last week… Jane's mother passing away… Her house narrowly missing the Malibu fires… Her food poisoning… Sabrina getting voted off… What is going on this season on "Dancing With the Stars"?
Next up... someone gets arrested? I only say that because I can remember all the times "American Idol" castoffs wound up on the wrong side of the law! I'm pretty sure that won't be next. An injury perhaps? -- More likely.
There is no question it's strange. There is also no question that it's making for a great season. Normally, by this time we have reached our tipping point of actually caring about the show. Instead, it's front "Web" page news. So, I say, "Let's keep those incidents coming!"
On to Sabrina, who was eliminated last night. I, like everyone at the studio, was shocked to see her voted out. The more I thought about it though, the more I think it's actually not that shocking. My theory is that because of all the older celebrities participating, the audience doesn't skew as young as it once did. Somehow I just don't see "Cheetah Girl" fans being all that interested in a ballroom dancing competition. Sabrina is popular in the tweeny bopper set but that is all she had. She doesn't have the same crossover appeal as say… Billy Ray Cyrus did.
Sabrina is one tough cookie. I never once saw her shed a single tear afterwards. Producers, judges, friends, family and all the other dancers kept coming up to her and trying to comfort her but she held it together the entire time. At one point, a young girl (who I'm assuming was a close friend) came up to her bawling and gave her a hug. Sabrina yelled at her, "stop, stop, stop, stop." Melanie Brown offered to take her out on the town and Marie jokingly told her, "Don't feel bad, your fans are really young and they don't know how to dial your number."
Her dance partner [and I'm assuming her new beau based on how they kept calling each other "baby" during my interview], Mark Ballas, was the one with the tears. Why the tears? He said it was from his deep disappointment, "I've loved every minute of dancing with Sabrina and I just wanted to try my best to take her all the way but maybe I didn't do enough."
deffinetly my favorite couple. extremly sad(and shocked) and to see them go and not going to see them on the dance floor next week is gonna be hard. TEAM SABRINA ALL THE WAY! i tried voting monday night for them, but the phone said i used them all but in reality i only used 2. i think they got screwed over and robbed. ABC should have them on again.
they would make such a cute couple.
I am very sad to see Sabrina go as I felt she was one of the best in the competition. I am sorry I dont think Marie or Jane are performing at the level they need to be at in this point in the show and its sad to see someone who could have gone to the finals voted off when those two are still on the show. I guess this tends to happen with all voting competition shows though.
Sabrina & Mark's depature is confusing and devastating. As many voters had trouble calling in (ie, dialing Sabrina's number and getting Marie or Jennie's instead, getting only 4 or 5 calls in and being told we are at our limit). Therefore, a lot of us (right now over 4,000 of us) are asking for either a re-count or more preferrably, a dance-off.

I am truly diasppointed that Mel and Max did not win. By the way, Helio did NOT outdance anyone. I will not watch this show anymore. There's more to this win than is being said. Also, if rumors are true, this show will become a soap opera where all dancers can find lust or love!
