Last Minute Celeb Inspired Halloween Costumes
My favorite holiday of the year is by far Halloween. I live in one of those crazy neighborhoods where it's three hours of non-stop costumed kids looking for a snack. This year we happen to have a gotten a box of full size candy bars for a promotional event. So, we will be re-gifting our Snickers swag and surely be the most popular house on the block.
So, last week I set up at shoot at Cinema Secrets here in Burbank. For the past 20 or some odd years they have been a one stop Halloween shop for all the studios around here. They even have their own Halloween coordinator who helped us create some fun celeb-inspired looks on a budget. The great news is if you have yet to even think about a costume, most of this stuff you can likely already find in your own closet.
Brangelina and their brood -- This is by far one of the most popular couple costumes this year. It's the simplest look to create. For Angelina all you need is a brown wig (unless of course you are blessed with her luscious locks already), a lip liner to overdraw your lips and poof out your pout, a black eyeliner to create your own tattoos, a pair of aviator sunglasses and a nice casual 'taking the kids to school outfit'. We re-created one of her looks with a simple black shirt, gray skinny jeans and black pumps. If you are not lucky enough to have your own Brad Pitt, then just get your guy a nice tight t-shirt, a trendy pair of jeans and either spike his hair up or throw on a newsboy cap. Grab a stroller and a few baby dolls and you are ready to roll. Just be on high alert for prying paparazzi.
Ellen and Iggy -- It's all in good fun with this one because you know I am a dog lover. Ellen loves a good pant suit or a nice sweater and pants combo. We grabbed a red sweater like the one she wore on the day of her breakdown, a white collared shirt for underneath and gray slacks. Of course, you have to have Ellen's favorite accessory… her sneakers. Go out and get yourself a short blonde wig and a black stuffed puppy dog and you are all set for a reunion. The dance moves you'll have to re-create all on your own. Just don't be tempted to give the stuffed dog to your hairdresser after Halloween is over.
Nicole Richie -- A simple costume with great comic effect and all you need is great medium brown shoulder-length wig. Find a cute little party dress (that has room to grow) from your own closet. We took a hat and pinned it inside the dress to create the belly. A small round pillow should do the trick too. Add some dark sunglasses, a humongous purse and cute but short heels, and you're all set.
Paris Hilton -- Always an easy getup with a blonde wig, a skimpy outfit and huge sunglasses. We decided to create Jailbird Paris this year. Grab an orange jumpsuit from a Halloween store and throw it over your skimpy outfit and you are all set. Make sure you practice your Paris pout before you go out and be sure to tell everyone "That's Hot" after you collect your candy.
Amy Winehouse -- They tried to make her go to rehab and she said… well, you know what she said. Winehouse looks like she is walking around in her Halloween costume every day, so what better person to emulate. A bouffant wig is a must for this look unless you already have big hair. Then you just need a comb and lots of hairspray. Take a black eyeliner close to your lash line and draw outwards. Red lips work well … or big pink lips too. Grab a pair of short shorts, a tank top, some big hoop earrings and sky high heels. A Halloween store will have temporary tattoos that you apply with water... and for that extra special Amy look, add a few scratches and bruises with makeup and fake blood.
Hannah Montana -- Shame on Halloween companies for selling a pre-packaged version of this costume. It didn't even look anything like her, yet stores everywhere have been sold out for months. So, if your six-year-old has been crying about it for weeks then have no fear -- it's easy to recreate. All you need is a long blonde wig. Take the front of the hair and make some bangs with it. Hit the sale sections at your local mall to find a cute trendy outfit and some costume jewelry. To finish that pop star look, add a fun headset available at any local electronics retailer. Send her out trick or treating with dad in a mullet and you've got instant Billy Ray Cyrus!
What will you be for Halloween, Laura Saltman?
Well, I had this cute German beer girl outfit I was going to wear to a Halloween Party but it was on Friday night after the Britney Court Chaos, so I fell asleep! It's probobly not appropriate for the kiddies tonight so I'm thinking Angelina Jolie.
I love halloween.
