'Nip/Tuck' and the Fire Marshall
![]()
So, last night I met up with my two favorite plastic surgeons... not the real MD kind but the "Nip/Tuck" kind. I missed the big premiere party last Saturday, so it was good to get my Julian McMahon and Dylan Walsh fix even if it was brief.
Season five begins on Tuesday and F/X has this fun promotion up at the Hollywood and Highland complex here in LA. That's the big tourist trap which houses the Kodak Theater and Mann's Chinese Theater. Level Two has this great hologram where it looks like you are actually watching the docs perform a procedure. Last night was the big unveiling where the guys got to see it for the first time. The media was invited and a red carpet was rolled out. Fans and tourists got to gather around to watch the festivities. This posed a problem for the media outlets who were their to cover the event as they were encroaching on our interview space. Do you feel a tale from the field coming on? Of course, this is the Dish of Salt blog. That's what I do!
The press was asked to stay behind the velvet ropes they had set up for us. As usual there was very little room for each crew, so I was told my camera man and I could step out of our spot to interview Dylan and Julian. Some guy said they would set up stanchions and block us off but it would take a second to get the stanchions after they arrived. It seemed like a lot of work for nothing. So, I said we would just take two steps outside of the rope when the interview started.
Simple enough right? Apparently not.
Thirty seconds after my interview started I get swarmed by two huge security guards and the Fire Marshall telling me I had to get behind the velvet rope or they would stop the interview. So, lets see. Southern California is overrun with wildfires burning down homes and businesses yet my extra two steps outside of a velvet rope are enough to put the Fire Marshall on the attack. Don't they have more important issues to be dealing with than a small little press event, like putting out the fires!? Seriously. This is very bothersome to me. I'm sure they will say it was for crowd control but the crowd seemed just fine and controlled.
On a bright note, the reviews for the new season have been really good and the guys were excited to hear that critics are enjoying the show's lighter tone.
"That was the idea. Yeah. It is more fun. It is lighter on its feet, " Dylan said.
Always telling it like it is, Julian told me the show had definitely gotten off track somewhere, "I thought we had a couple of bad years. I thought season three I didn't like at all. It was very dark and very depressing and we went to a strange place and last year we got a little bit better and this year I think we just kind of plucked it out of wherever the hell it was and put it back to where it needs to be."
Decide for yourself. Nip/Tuck premieres October 30th on F/X.
