Hollywood & The NFL Collide

Maria Menounos and Kim Kardashian

The stars have converged upon Phoenix for Super Bowl XLII and nowhere was that clash more evident than at the DirecTV celebrity beach bowl on a sunny Thursday afternoon in Arizona.

Celebrities including Pete Wentz, Stacey Kiebler, "Gossip Girl" darling Blake Lively and "Girl Next Door's" resident tomboy Kendra Wilkinson showed off their athletic prowess against some of the NFL's biggest stars in a game of sand flag football on Thursday.

"Celebrities and football go hand in hand," said Access Hollywood's own Maria Menounos (pictured with Kim Kardashian on the sidelines), who was also hosting the event being broadcast live on SpikeTV.

And as the star studded starting lineups were announced, it was Fall Out Boy frontman Pete Wentz who drew the loudest ovation from the packed house.

After former NFL star Raghib Ismail got the white team on the board first, Brody Jenner tied the score as he caught a touchdown pass from football legend Doug Flutie, pulling the blue team even on the board.

After some exciting back and forth action in the first half, the teams took the field for the second half and the white team finally unveiled its secret weapon -- Maria!

Chomping at the bit on the sidelines, an eager Maria set the microphone aside and took the field.

And while she may not have gotten in the end zone, she did play some vicious defense on Blake Lively and had an amazing diving catch in the sand!

The crowd, made up largely of teens hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars, cheered both teams on throughout.

And although the blue team prevailed, both teams left the field with nothing but smiles.

No sooner did the players hit the sidelines than Pete Wentz dipped backstage for a quick costume change and Fall Out Boy hit the stage, sending rock n’ roll through the desert air, as the teens cascaded from the stands onto the field for a closer look at the group on-stage.

With three days still to go until the New York Giants and New England Patriots take the field for Super Bowl XLII, it’s clear the line between Hollywood and Arizona has officially disintegrated!

Nice biased reporting. Here is a thought...not everyone loves the arrogant Patriots or that idiot Tom Brady. I don't personally care who Maria likes but I keep having to see it on your show. Oh well even if her team wins she is stuck with that awful laugh for life.
