'Idol' Thoughts Week Two: The Girls

Thumbnail image for brookeguitar.jpg So, like last night the person who went last is now up first.  She may have had a major recording deal in the past but Carly Smithson, as it turns out, is now just a waitress.  So, hopefully that will settle all debates about her being a current professional.  I hate the tattoos but the girl sure did rock it out tonight finally proving why she is a frontrunner in this competition.  I guess I was watching a different show than Randy Jackson who thought it was only "alright" or as the dawg says "aw-right."

Will Simon eat his words later in the show after saying to her, "I don't think any of these girls can touch you vocally?"  We'll see.

Apparently, I'm watching a different show as the judges tonight because I thought Syesha Mercado was fantastic. In her "people would be surprised" admission, Syesha  threw out that she had acted in commercials.  I wonder if this confession was because many of her commercials can be seen on YouTube.  There was even one she did for Ford.  Could this be a conflict of interest when they start filming those cheesy Top 12 Ford commercials?

So, Brooke White confesses that she went to beauty school.  Well, how come up until last week her curls were full of frizz? Ah ha because she didn't finish! Well, this beauty school drop out is still one of my favorites this season.  She definitely hit a few rough spots during her song but overall sounded great yet again. I'm so excited she chose to bring out the guitar.  I think it's a great addition to this aging franchise.

For those of you not in Los Angeles, no they didn't fly Ramiele Malubay to Hawaii to show us her Polynesian dance. That little segment was filmed in a park across the street from the CBS Studios where "American Idol" is taped.  If you look closely behind her you can see the parking structure for The Grove mall which is right behind CBS.  Why am I telling you this useless information?  To pass the time while Ramiele sings because I hate disco music.

Ok, so either the Top 20 contestants are picking their own clothes or this show is in dire need of new wardrobe stylists. The outfits tonight have been horrendous with the worst offender being Kristy Lee Cook in her metallic v-neck shirt and equally shiny black pants.  The singing was at least better than the outfit.

And while I'm on the subject what the heck is Paula Abdul wearing?  Her shirt reminds me of the woman who used to baby sit me in the 70's, Mrs. Barkley.

What is up with that hair on Amanda Overmyer? I can't listen to someone singing when I'm distracted by their helmet/Elvira hair.  Now I know in the past that the contestants have some say in their hair design (remember Sanjay's Pony Hawk? All his idea). This is a rule that needs to change.  No, self respecting hair stylist on a national TV show would allow this tragedy to happen. If Dean Banowetz hadn't been  canned this season, this hair would never have been seen. Bring back Banowetz!!!

My producer pal Bryant is all about Alaina Whitaker.  She is his girl this season.  For me, she's cute but vocally she just doesn't have any magic.

Ok, I've completely lost any interest in this show. I was born in the seventies and I hate all of these songs except for the one by Heart. This Alexandrea Lushington performance is putting me to sleep. Her lack of charisma and her weak vocals two weeks in a row are putting her in danger tonight.

Does anyone else want to hear the rest of Kady Malloy's vocal impersonations.  We know she can do Britney but let the girl bust out her other celebs.  I thought she sounded great so again I'm watching a different show than the judges.

Again, I'm distracted by the hair tonight.  What is up with that horrible wig on Asia'h Epperson?  Maybe it weighed her down so much that's why her vocals were so shaky.

No more bad Idol hair. Bring back Dean, I beg of you!

"American Idol" Terms I cannot stand anymore:  1 million percent.

Predictions:  Alexandrea Lushington and Kristy Lee Cook.
