Kanye's Personal Grammy Moment

Comments (1)

Kanye West at the GrammysKanye West's bid during his acceptance speech to stop the "wrap-up" music last night was another example of his contentious relationship with the music industry.  He has never felt that he is given the proper respect. Not just Grammy, but MTV VMA's and AMA's too.

The fact that he lost Album of the Year to Herbie Hancock will drive him crazy for another year.  He wants respect from the Grammy's.  Two armloads of gramophones in one night is how he defines it I think.

"Is this what you've been waiting for?" he yells into the crowd during his performance.  The crowd was ok, but they're wearing suits, they aren't going to go nuts.  "Stronger" was not his strongest....but he did make a major impact.

That in a moment.

But that was also the indignant Kanye's way of getting the upper hand in his career-long struggle with music's authorities.  You WILL respect me.

But under the complex layers of the artist is a brilliant and affecting Kanye West.  His song "Hey Mama" was beautiful.  Tears were in my eyes as he poured passion and emotion into his tribute to his late mother, Donda.  To quote Sam Rubin, local KTLA entertainment reporter whom everyone knows in LA, "the Grammys are about moments and THAT was a moment".

Forget the struggle, Kanye.  You are brilliant and gifted.  In that emotional tribute to your mother, in song no less, you paid tribute to the love of sons to their moms everywhere.  It was great.  You got MY respect, their respect and everyone's.

Kanya is a spoiled little brat. It is unfortunate what happened to his mother and I never wish something like that on someone. But the truth is Kanye has always had an attitude and treats journalists/producers/assistants, etc. like garbage...this self-induced sense of worth and "brilliance" was there long before he found true success. His mother's death and his sadness over it doesn't mean he instantly gets my sympathy and I will ignore what a jerk he can be. He shouldn't be allowed to treat people like that just because he is an "artist". It's gross...and he'll get my true respect when he starts acting like a grown man and not a spoiled little brat ever time someone equally deserving get "his" award. Billy, I would think you could see through that as well.
