Buh Bye David Hernandez!
My theory though is his whole "Pizza Bistro" confession hurt him. When it came time to talk about what the contestants did before they got on the show, he chose (or maybe the producers told him too) not to mention what he actually used to do – strip. Why not own up to it. Put it out there. Have a chuckle about it and then move on. I think America would appreciate a little honesty. We rarely get it unless someone is forced into it as we have seen this week with Eliot Spitzer.
It will be interesting to see how David handles himself on the conference call with reporters this morning. I’ll have to miss it because I’m on a shoot but I will listen in and let you know what he says later today.
I have to run to my shoot so here are just a few quick tidbits I saw last night from the studio:
Katharine McPhee and David Foster actually pre-taped their performance last night right before the show. I arrived to the studio at 5:30 PM to find out I couldn’t get in just yet because Kat was still on stage. That entire section with the callers was pre-taped together with Kat’s performance. Savvy viewers might notice that the people behind the judges were just a little different from the rest of the show.
Danny Noriega and his friends were all wearing T-shirts that said Vote For Ramiele Malubay. Danny got introduced to the audience and then he and Ramiele blew each other kisses. After the show, Danny was stopped continuously by fans requesting photos.
Sanjaya Malakar and his sister were sitting directly behind David Archuleta’s father who they were knee deep in conversation with for about twenty minutes.
When Jim Carrey walked into the studio about 30 seconds before the show started, the crowd erupted in applause and jumped to their feet. He left immediately when the Idols finished their medley, but not before having a chat with Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson. He came back right before he went up on stage with the final four contestants. I loved that he stuck around afterward standing off to the side waiting to see who would be eliminated. At one point, he nearly got hit by the camera guy operating the jib.
Amanda Overmyer did not look happy when she was singing her medley. Several times it looked like she forgot the words and where she was supposed to go. The only time she perked up was during her solos. I got the feeling she thought the whole thing was cheesy. Which, of course, it is.
During David’s goodbye video the entire group came over to him and were hugging him and consoling him. As soon as the show ended the judges came up to talk to him as they usually do with the eliminated contestants.
