Sounding Off On Spitzer

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer is an embarrassment.  People should be outraged that the Governor of New York was subverting his wife and chasing a prostitute.  Client #9....way to go, Spitzer.

How stupid and self-destructive can this guy be?

For a TV personality to do this, for example, it would be monumentally stupid.  For the Governor of New York...amazingly, stratospherically dumb.

Never mind that the guy is an unfaithful weasel, he's too reckless to be Governor.

In his brief words, he made clear that he believes personal lives are personal, clearly hoping to inoculate himself from official punishment.  How arrogant.  He "allegedly" broke the law, although that "allegedly" is only there to mollify our legal department.

Prostitution is illegal in New York and if in fact he engaged in conduct of this nature, which he no doubt did, the people of New York (and I am a born and raised New Yorker) will not let this guy off the hook (sorry, I had to).

The arrogance of this guy whose lofty state position breathes an air of superiority in his lungs is almost as irritating as the sight of one more political wife taking the place next to her royal sinner with that look of resilience where there should only be anger and vindictive bitterness....a look that says "I'll get this idiot back, believe me."

Gov. Spitzer made his name as a hard-nosed prosecutor and attorney general who ran on a platform of cleaning up the shady politics of Albany.  His credibility is long gone and his legacy will be as a proverbial blemish on the rear end of New York.

And Guv, when you're done apologizing to your wife and three kids, say you're sorry to kids all over the country...you were a role model.

Thank goodness someone else noticed, yet again, the wife of some nasty old politician who can't keep his pants zipped, is standing by his side! It's incredibly irritating! 20+ years of marriage and this man hires nasty hookers to fill his needs - on Valentine's Day, no less? This man's home is full of women and he feels okay (perhaps even entitled) disrespecting them in this way? If I were wife, I would interrupt him mid-forced apology and wring his babymakers. But that's just me.

It was painful to see his wife stand next to her cheating husband.

WHYYYY? Because apparently, political wife = ornament. Hasn't he embarrassed her enough? He definitely needs to talk to his kids, especially if he has a daughter. The mother also needs to talk to them - she needs to have a talk with them about how women/wives should be treated.

One of these days, I would love to hear an honest statement from the wife. The public knows that what he did was wrong. We know that his wife and kids are hurting. There is no need to pretend that his behavior was in any way shape or form acceptable.

Hi Billy
I agree with you 1000% why are these wifes always standing up there with there cheating husband . You would not find me there. I would embarrasse him as much he embarrassed me. I feel very sorry for his kids . It is getting really old with these Politicans saying that they are comming to clean up the state or town but they have the most skeletons in there clost.

P.S. Could you please ask Nancy to write something new in her blog . I know she is now a busy mom but it would be really nice !!!

I think the whole 'stand by your man' mantra has its limits. It's okay to be angry when the man that you have stood by has committed such a horrible sin. Let him face the consequences on his own. Let him admit that he is a creep on his own. Let him apologize to the country on his own.

I have no doubt that Mrs. Spitzer loves her husband. However, Mrs. Spitzer has every right to be angry (and disgusted). Just be angry. At this point, there is no 'good' image to protect. They no longer need to pretend to be happy for the sake of Spitzer political career. The public knows better.

It was very painful to watch her stand by her sorry excuse for a husband. I would hate to think of what his teenage daughters are going through. Not only does Daddy not respect mommy, he is also a criminal.

Spitzer helped clean up Wall Street. This will help clean up the Government.

The media is focusing too much on the prostitute, Alexandra Dupre.

Instead of focusing on other aspects of what ELLIOT SPITZER FAILED TO DO AS ATTORNEY GENERAL AND GOVERNOR, like refuse to take on corrupt judges in Brooklyn courts, the media is focusing on what brought him down.

On October 2004, I came to Elliot Spitzer about the corruption in the Brooklyn courts and the list of the judges who I suspected was paid off by my ex-husband. Not only, did Elliot Spitzer refuse to help me, but he sent the list to the District Attorney in Brooklyn to have me arreste. In retaliation, I found myself a few days later in jail in Rikers Island on the charge of "false child abuse reporting" and on an extradition to Florida. I was detained bogusly for 13 months.

What really upsets me about this whole situation is that the hooker has become some sort of instant celebrity!! Why, oh why, are we teaching our young daughters that this is okay? I can tell you from a very personal standpoint that I would NOT stand by my man at that podium. He got himself into this mess and I would refuse to be by his side while he issued apologies. What a disgrace to the human race.

Amen, Billy. There's a particular quality about you that I appreciate--you don't seem to take your own celebrity too seriously.

I can only imagine how easy it would be for you to become immune to the outrageous elements of today's celebrity culture, thereby losing your ability to stand back, observe, and offer comment with some degree of objectivity. You are clear as to what AH is about--and your 'wink and a smile', 'roll-of-the-eyes', and 'Can you believe it?!'--reminds us that you don't take it all more seriously than is warranted.

We will be checking in with The Billy Busy radio program, hoping it will give you an even broader venue to speak your mind, and tell the truth.
