The Beckhams Take Over 'Idol'
Well, apparently I have a very bad memory or I haven't been around enough Spice Girls. Thirty seconds before the show is about to go live the two beefy security guards escort in their precious cargo - Victoria "Posh" Beckham and her three young sons. These were not Secret Service. These were bodyguards. All of a sudden it hits me. I have seen these two Secret Service looking men before, at the "High School Musical 2" after party. Posh and her family were sitting a foot away from me that night. I even snapped a photo that actually includes the bodyguards. Apparently, across the pond there have been several kidnapping plots uncovered - hence the bodyguards. Here in America though, I don't think anyone would care enough to put together such a devious plot against the Beckhams.
This is not to say that I did not spend the entire time watching Posh and the boys as they enjoyed the show. In fact, many people were doing the same and the ones in front of her were getting whiplash from staring. Her youngest son, three-year-old Cruz, was way too cute wearing a Buzz Lightyear costume complete with the wings and boots! I can just imagine this conversation in the Beckham household. "No Cruz, you cannot wear your Buzz costume, it's not Halloween." He was snapped wearing a Batman costume to the movies last week. I guess we know who won that battle.
At one point, Posh was having a typical mom moment when she yelled at
Cruz to sit in his seat. What was most interesting though, was seeing
her sons being held or sitting on the laps of the bodyguards. That's
how important these men are in their lives. They have become family. I
once had a bodyguard go to school with me when my dad received death
threats. Stu (that's my dad) pissed off one to many fellow lawyers
apparently in the late 70's. The bodyguard came with me on the bus to
school and hung out in the back of my classroom. I did not feel like a
celebrity, more like a prisoner.
Anywho, the whole Beckham bunch got up and left after Carly Smithson performed. They were never seen on the show when it aired and no pictures from inside exist as Posh said "no" when she was asked by the house photographer. Poor warm up guy Cory got the evil eye from Posh when he told Cruz he liked his Buzz Lightyear costume.
Other celebs spotted in the audience last night included Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt who held hands as they walked in together, proving they are still together (or, at least, that they know how to act like they are still together in front of large crowds). They also left after Carly performed.
Was it something she sang?
Rumer Willis enjoyed the show with an unidentified male friend who looked like a bit of a punk. She was clearly a huge David Cook fan. She jumped out of her seat and was rocking out to him big time as he sang "Daytripper." She also gave a wave to Carly Smithson who was standing off to the side watching her friend David perform (which should be against the rules). However, Carly was waiting in the wings for the camera to show her as they went to commercial break.
I also spotted Joely Fisher from "Til Death," Willie Garson who plays Stanford in "Sex and The City" and Ricki Lake who stopped in before she went over to "Dancing With the Stars."
As for the performances, David Archuleta sounded incredible inside the studio. I've heard from a few folks here that he didn't sound as good on TV but inside the studio he had many people in tears. His voice definitely has a Josh Groban quality to it and frankly, if he stuck with that I actually think he would sell albums.
Despite the fact that Simon Cowell called Amanda Overmyer's performance of "Back In The U.S.S.R." predictable, he was tapping his toe right along to the music and for while was tapping his hand on the judges console.
It was a tough night for many and you could tell that Simon was bored most of the night. He paid little attention to Kristy Lee Cook, Michael Johns, Brooke White or Jason Castro and he never once looked at Ramiele Malubay. In fact, he looked sort of disturbed when she was singing.
When Chikeze busted out his harmonica, Simon actually laughed and then turned around to the audience and gave them a sort of "whoop di do" hand gesture.
At the end of the show, all the Idols turned their back to the audience to watch their musical montage piece. Amanda and Kristy gave a Beatles like scream when they showed David Archuleta, basically making fun of the audience for their reaction whenever he is around. Carly and David Cook were arm in arm as they watched and they all got a huge laugh out of Jason Castro's "Michelle" performance.
I think this week's bottom three will be Kristy Lee Cook, Ramiele Malubay and Michael Johns… with Kristy hopefully going home.
More dish from Inside Idol tomorrow and I'll have an interview with the eliminated contestant on Friday.

If Michael Jackson that would be the ultimate treasure not to mention high ratings if he went on AI.
