The Curse Of The 'Idol' Viewing Party Strikes Again!
Note to friends/family/co-workers of "Idol" contestants if you throw a viewing party for someone at a bar or club and invite the media, make sure you have a lively crowd of at least 50 or so people.
This morning, Carly spoke to reporters on a conference call and she was by far the most upbeat of the six who have been eliminated. She's happy to have gone out on top singing a great song and getting positives comments from Simon Cowell. I get the feeling she didn't ever want to win this thing. I think she wanted to use it for the publicity and then go out and make another album.
Of course, someone brought up the fact that she had a failed record released in 2001 under her maiden name, Carly Hennessy. She believes that bad publicity in the beginning is ultimately what was her demise. Actually, I think she is totally wrong. That bad publicity is what made people know her name and kept her in the competition. If people gave a hoot about her failed album they would have voted her off Top 12 week. Her fans just are not as loyal as Jason, Syesha, Brooke or the David’s.
I just learned yesterday from our Web Managing Editor guru, Jeremy, that apparently, Syesha is benefiting from the alumni at her alma mater, Florida International University. It's a large university in Miami and they've started an alumni and student chain to vote for her. Shouldn't these college kids be concentrating on their finals instead?! Well, at least it helps to explain the mystery of Syesha. It’s certainly not her personality or vocal prowess keeping her around.
By the way, if Carly had made it through to next week, she had plans to sing Neil Diamond's (he's the mentor next week) "Sweet Caroline" as a ballad with a cello and piano for accompaniment. I bet it would have sounded great!
Oh and we are having a viewing party next week for.... HA! I'm not telling you.
What the heck is going on with AI this year? How could Carly be sent home? She was by far my favorite from the get go. I thought it would be Michael Jonhs and her in the end. But I guess the 12 year old girls rule the voting. What the Heck!!! There needs to be some kind of age limit or voter registration. (I am joking) But something needs to be done. I guess I have no room to talk, because I never vote. I didn't think I needed to. Guess I was wrong.
