My Morning With 'Idol' Champ David Cook!
My favorite moment was when the Philadelphia affiliate had a special reporter to interview David, 11-year Rocco Fiorentino who has been legally blind since birth. He's a singer, pianist, & composer whose dream is to be on "American Idol" when he turns 16. He considers himself to be a prodigy, just like David Archuleta, and the boy sure can sing. If the show is still on the air in five years, I predict Rocco will be in the Top 12! You heard it here first.
David Archuleta showed up just after 5 AM and was off and running with the Fox affiliates as well. Both David's continued the interview circuit for over three hours with barely a break in between. I, however, grabbed my crew and went for some breakfast. When we returned, I got a chance to talk to Archie who seems every week to be breaking out of his shyness shell. Back to back interviews will do that to you. Archie confirmed what I reported yesterday, that Grammy winning songwriter Diane Warren had approached him about penning songs for him. He was flattered and believes this is a collaboration that will definitely happen.
Next, David Cook and I were off in a limo back to the Access Hollywood stage. The poor guy was exhausted. By this point he had been up for over 24 hours straight with no sleep last night. He went straight from the show to tons of press interviews, photos and then to the 19 Entertainment party to meet up with friends, family and fellow contestants. After I gave him a quick Idol quiz David took the remaining 15 minutes of the drive to catch a few zzzs. I personally could never fall asleep like that, but David was out like a light for about ten minutes. He looked so cute with his head leaning over on the seat, like a little boy. I felt so bad when we arrived that he had to wake up. Next, it was into our studios where I left David in our green room to catch a few more minutes of shuteye on the coach before performing in our stage and talking to Nancy O'Dell.
David's whirlwind first full day as the "American Idol" isn’t over when he leaves here. He'll be going to the "Tonight" Show and then "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" followed by a magazine photo shoot and then "Larry King Live" later this evening. He finally wraps things up around 7 PM and will hopefully get some much-deserved sleep before he jets off to New York City this weekend.
Just a few tidbits I wanted to share from last night's red carpet. I've been covering this show for the last seven years and last night, I learned for the first time that many of the past Idol contestants don't actually have tickets to the show. They just show up to the red carpet to try and get press coverage and then either leave or try to finagle themselves tickets. Ouch! I did see Haley Scarnato with Blake Lewis, Chris Sligh, Christina Christian and Ace Young inside the house. To be fair, I won't name the former contestants I suspect are guilty of this. It's a bit sad though. They also don't seem to get the star treatment anymore. While Ruben and Fantasia arrived via a nice limo, I spotted Sanjaya being driven by a friend in a silver Volkswagon. They were driving around trying to find parking looking very panicked!
Jasmine Trias from season three was there last night and told me she was hoping to meet Ramiele Malubay. She wanted to meet her fellow Filipina Idol and see if she wanted to collaborate with her on an album to be released in the Philippines. Jasmine has had huge success there already.
I finally got a chance to corner Lacey Schwimmer from "So You Think You Can Dance." I was the first one to report that she was dating her fellow dancer, Hok. They broke up and then she was rumored to be dating David Cook after meeting him during Idol Gives Back. She explained that she and Hok broke things off because being on tour together was just a little too close for comfort. She also confirmed that she did meet David and they hung out together as friends but they are absolutely, positively not dating. I'm not sure when she would have time. She actually turned down a part to be a dancer in "High School Musical 3" (her best friend Jamie Goodwin is a dancer in it) to do a film with Adam Sandler called "Bedtime Stories." This girl's career is on fire!
It's been a fun season and I'd like to say it's all over and I get a break for awhile but I’ve just learned that "American Idol" season eight auditions will begin in July. AAAHHHHHHHH!

Laura,
I could not agree with you more... Rocco Fiorentino is already an up and coming Super Star!!! He has accomplished so much in his young life. Not only is he SO TALENTED, he has done amazing things for charity. If you have not already done so, you should check out his web site www.musicbyrocco.com
I was really disappointed that Access Hollywood did not show him singing or his interview. Maybe another time.
