Our 'Idol' Curse Gets Brooke And What Happened When Natasha Bedingfield Forgot Her Lyrics?

Well, things went down at "American Idol" last night exactly as I thought they would. The lovely, and once very talented (but lost her confidence), Brooke White was sent home. I knew it would happen not because her guitar playing, kitschy performance of "I'm A Believer" was so awful, but because Access Hollywood was at a viewing party for her Tuesday night.

If you are paying attention, this is now the third time this season we have covered a viewing party and the person was eliminated the next night. This is also if you are counting the eighth time this has happened during an ‘Idol’ season. This time, the viewing party was held at a furniture store in Van Nuys where Brooke lives. The newly opened "Living Spaces" hosted the party so her friends and family could watch her on multiple big screen TVs. It would have made a great story on our show, but unfortunately, Paula's lunatic behavior hugely diminished the air time for the party. If you blinked, you missed it in our show last night. There were about 100 to 150 in attendance and clearly our presence must have thrown off their texting and dialing capabilities. Or maybe they just all got caught up in re-decorating their houses once they were inside a furniture store?

This morning on a conference call, Brooke told reporters she got a phone this morning from her Idol, Carly Simon.

"She was incredibly supportive, very generous in her comments. It actually really boosted my spirits. It kind of gave me a motivation and a hope to keep going in the direction that I am."

I was at the Idol taping last night and from far away, Natasha Bedingfield and Brooke looked like twins. They even forget their lyrics the same. Yes, even the professionals do it sometimes!

Natasha's performance of "Pocket Full of Sunshine" was pre-taped. She launched into her song and then about 20 seconds into it proceeded to forget her lyrics. Now, if you weren't paying close attention in the audience you might not have heard her sing the words "sorry." She actually did a fairly decent job of covering it up and kept right on singing but someone in the control room noticed and eventually Debbie the stage manager came over and stopped her. Then Debbie jokes, "see Brooke, its not just you."

Take two went perfectly fine until Ryan Seacrest came over and greeted her with a kiss on the lips. Natasha asks, "do you kiss everyone on the lips after they perform?" Things went from bad to worse with this little bit and poor Natasha had to sing her song all over again to make up for this gaffe.

The third take of the song was a success, her after song banter with Ryan was taken down to a PG level, and Natasha began to leave the stage. All of sudden, she crosses over to the stage to sit next to David Archuleta and give him a smooch. Of course, this is the version that eventually made air.  What you didn't see was the reason why Natasha cozied up to Archuleta.  During the intro by Seacrest to the first two takes of her performance, he mentioned, "a little birdy told me David Archuleta has a crush on her." By the third take of the intro he failed to mention this “crush” which made Natasha's smooches for David and invite to the prom make little sense to all but those in the studio audience.

Of course, the best moment was when Simon's first kiss, Tara Miller, called in. Fortunately, I had snuck my blackberry in and I frantically sent an e-mail to our staff to go out and find her before it aired and anyone else had a chance to find her, since this was also pre-taped. As usual, the folks here came through, and we tracked her down.

So, be sure and catch Access Hollywood tonight to see what she looks like!
