The Dish Inside The Emmys, Part 2
Mark Wahlberg is on the end of the row in front of me. He keeps having to get up to let people out to hit the bathroom.
A very pregnant Amy Poehler runs up the aisle at commercial to say, "Hi" to some friends. She runs back and says, "Hi" to John Krasinski from "The Office" then runs back up to say, "Hi" to Seth Myers. She is truly glowing.
Adrian Grenier heads out to the lobby. He stops to chat with Mark Wahlberg and gets caught in a logjam of folks trying to hit the lobby too. Only an hour into the show and everyone is antsy already. Not good!
Melora Hardin and Kate Flannery from "The Office" stand up because they can't see the screen during the throws to commercial.
Josh Groban's TV theme medley was fantastic! Just in case he forgets a word or what song is next it's all on the teleprompter. He only seems to glance at it once.
David Boreanaz, prior to the Laugh In reunion, waits in the wings for his turn to present. He nervously messes with his tux and pulls up his striped socks. He attended rehearsal yesterday but his co-presenter, Lauren Conrad, did not. He told me they would meet for the first time tonight. He has never seen an episode of "The Hills." They don't talk much as they wait together backstage. LC nervously wipes something off her dress.
Half way through the show and boredom has set in. The lobby is jamming. Conan O'Brien, who has been up at every commercial and clearly can't sit still, is out in the lobby on the phone. Mark Wahlberg waits in line for a drink at the concession stand. A bunch of people asks to take photos of him. A group of people stands and uses their phones to snap photos of him standing in line. Really? At the Emmys! Kinda rude if you ask me.
Love that Kathy Griffin just yelled at the audience to, "GET UP!" when she walked out to stage with Don Rickles.
Production has been looking for Charlie Sheen for a while. He finally shows up back at his seat at 7:20.
Hmmm. Where is "House's" Hugh Laurie? He was supposed to present with Glenn Close the Lead Actor in a movie or mini series. She ended up doing it alone. She is immediately escorted back to her seat and then proceeds to win for Lead Actress.
When Alec Baldwin wins, the "30 Rock" crew high five and hug each other in front of me.
Heidi Klum waits in the wings in yet another dress, while Glenn Close accepts her award.
Even though he lost, Jon Hamm has a huge grin on his face as he watches Bryan Cranston accept his award for lead actor.
Again, the "30 Rock" crew high five when Tina Fey wins. Her speech is great and when she thanks Lorne Michaels it reminds me that all it takes is one person, the right person, to believe in you.
Great segment with Jimmy Kimmel announcing the winner of the reality host category. During the commercial break they all stand around and take photos.
I breeze out to avoid the crush of people exiting. I see Charlie Sheen deep in conversation with Jon Cryer's wife. Kyra Sedgwick's arm is draped over Kevin Bacon's shoulders. America Fererra and I lock eyes. William Shatner and James Spader are having an animated conversation.
Sally Field, Matthew Rhys and Rachel Griffiths from "Brothers and Sisters" are all laughing together. Rita Wilson gives a huge hug to Julia Louis Dreyfus. Tom Hanks steps out into the lobby. He yells for Rita to quit talking and to "come on." Julia leaves too and jokes, "alright get out the chips and salsa." She also says about something, "That was an awful joke and my joke was going to be a Tina Fey joke." I have no clue what she is referring to!
GO JEFF PROBST! So proud. Another guy who didn't give up when things didn't go his way! He just won a freaking Emmy! I'll never forget the night we got stuck in an elevator for an hour at the Golden Globes and missed covering all the parties!
Yeah, "Mad Men" and "30 Rock" -- two of my favorite shows – win the show Emmys.
Mary-Louise Parker in a hot teal dress walks out the exit door and is told she is going the wrong way to get to the Governor's Ball.
Amy Poehler leaves with husband Will Arnett. She is seriously pregnant and so adorable.
Ed McMahon gets led out and down an elevator to the Presenter's Gift lounge. (later when he arrives his wife does the walking through while he takes a seat. He sits patiently for a long time.)
Steve Carrell and wife Nancy hold hands as they exit. Cute!
Michelle Pfeiffer walks out with husband David E Kelly. She looks like her feet are killing her in five-inch heels.
Mariska Hargitay takes a stroll through the Presenter's Gift lounge where I have now arrived. I walk in to find a very packed house! Marcia Cross sits in her dress, takes off her heels and tries on a pair of brown Koolaburra boots. Then she checks out the bags from Le Sport Sac. When she finds out they are made from recyclable material she remarks, "Ooh fantastic!"
Felicity Huffman chills on the couch. Olivia Wilde from "House" signs a dish at Bertolli. Nicollette Sheridan tests out lotions from Lierac then spends lots of time trying on designer sunglasses. Mariska checks out the diamonds at D'Annunzio.
Christina Applegate is asked if she is heading to the Governor's Ball after this or home and she says, "home."
Hayden Panettierre checks out the Palm Centro while she is actually texting then sits and tests out sunglasses. Mariska, Felicity and Sarah Paulson all share a great laugh.
Apparently, I missed when Alec Bladwin, Kevin Dillon and Lily Tomlin stopped in. The presenters lounge was a huge hit this year and I'm so thrilled to have been invited to participate. I've reached my Emmy limit. Time to wrap this night up!
