Sorry 'Chuck' I'm Now Engaged To 'Twilight's' Hottest Vampire!
Move over Zach Levi -- our fake TV engagement is over!
It's been a great run ever since you proposed to me last year on the set of "Chuck" with that fake 20 karat diamond ring.
We've been milking it for laughs ever since (including last week on the set where we even discussed Honeymoon spots) but now my love, I've got a new fiancé - And his name is Robert Pattinson.
If you haven't been living under a rock you might recognize him as the world's sexiest vampire right now; Edward Cullen from the "Twilight" series. You see, last weekend Shaun Robinson interviewed Robert at the press junket for "Twilight" and he talked about how he kept proposing to Kristen Stewart (that would be Bella, rock dwellers) while they were on set. She has a boyfriend though, so that didn't work out very well.
The tables got turned on him when somehow a bunch of young fans had gotten his phone number and kept texting him marriage proposals. So, I figured if Zach can't set a date after 15 months of fake TV engage-ary, why not get in on all this proposal action with Robert!
I had the ring all picked out. A beautiful heart shaped emerald and diamond plastic ring that I borrowed from my co-worker Sharon, who found it in her desk... or, possibly a Cracker Jack box. We're not sure. I arrive to the premiere only to be surrounded by thousands of Robert's young admirers. Little did they know I was about to steal his heart and that my ring would get tossed aside by an even more romantic gesture -- with a leaf.
Ahhhh, so Edward-like!
To see how it all went down you'll have to watch here...
Needless to say, this Edward/Robert fascination phenomenon has gotten to a level of absolute insanity. The fans last night fortunately kept it together and no major chaos erupted like it did in Seattle, Chicago and Dallas recently, where thousands of fans mobbed him at appearances - some causing fights in the crowds. I can honestly say that in all my years of covering entertainment news, this level of fan-demonium tops everything I have seen so far... Leonardo during the "Titanic" Years, *NSync and the Backstreet Boys in their heyday and even Zac Efron's recent "High School Musical" popularity do not hold a candle to the lengths girls are willing to go for their vampire love.
But that's really what it is. Robert said it best last night when he told me that all these girls are not in love with Robert Pattinson; they are in love with the character of Edward Cullen and what he represents. I just heard a story that some girls are scratching their necks at Robert's appearances so they will have "fresh blood" when they meet him. Gross!!
If you want to see how far this "Twilight" mania has gone, then check out Cafe Press online where they are selling over 7,000 different designs on merchandise including T-shirts with ingenious little messages just for "Twilight" fans. A few of my favorites: "Every Time I Hear Thunder I Wonder If Vampires Are Playing Baseball"; "Real Men Read Twilight"; "Give Blood. Date A Cullen"; and "I Like My Men Cold, Dead and Sparkly."
My personal fave: "I'm Just A Bella Waiting For Her Edward."
Someone send me that one. Size small, please.
Yesterday night was a time to remember, why, because I was one of the people in the audience that was there to experience this twilight interview on red carpet and Laura was so friendly and down to earth that she became apart of the Twilight Fan Crew not just another tv personality. Thank you so much Laura for making our night , a night to remember.( I was the African American with the red t- shirt that said Team Wolf) Also the producer and Ralph the cameraman, were awesome. lol
