I've Got The Indie Spirit! Hanging Backstage At The Gift Lounge

Mickey Rourke at the Independent Spirit Awards.jpgAfter working last night's unsettling Oscar assignment, I arrived home and reminisced back to an awards show that I now love:  The Independent Spirit Awards which were Saturday on the beach in Santa Monica, California. What a difference it makes to be able to hang backstage in a cool, comfortable environment where celebrities leave their pretensions at home. The dress is chic and casual and no one really frets about what they are going to wear. In fact, I was probably a little overdressed in my little black dress. Of course, I didn't mind that I was looking cute when Jon Hamm walked into the official presenters' gift lounge where I was camped out for the day. Just for coming inside Palm was making a donation on behalf of each celebrity to Project: Involve. Hamm was with his long-time girlfriend, Jennifer Westfeldt. Darn! Just kidding. She's sweet. She grabbed some B Tempted lingerie by Wacoal, which made Jon very happy (but not me!)

I mostly spent the day checking out the cool stuff the celebrities were being gifted and observing all the action. Alec Baldwin popped in and stopped at each and every station. He grabbed some Blue Notch Denim and a Carlos Falchi purse for his daughter Ireland. After each stop he would take a picture with all the ladies by linking arms. I just had to call him out on this. We had a very funny exchange where I told him it looked like he was about to walk me down the aisle!  His response? "That's right I am too old for you!"  I told him he wasn't so instead we did a "Prom" pose, which Alec decided, made it look like we were getting married. He said "I Do." I said "I Do Too!"

And there you have it. Sorry Zach Levi. Sorry Rob Pattinson. I've got a new guy. Well maybe not because that evening Alec was spotted at the movies with another girl! I wonder who she was because he did tell the gals at SakRoots, right before I interviewed him, that he didn't have anyone special in his life. Well, you do now! Alec, call me hubby!

Jessica Alba looked adorable in a sweet little pink sweater and dress. Over at the Glowelle booth she took a sip of their beauty drink, which I also tried. It's yummy and good for your skin. They asked her to write down what makes her glow. She wrote, "My daughter Honor." Cute! Taraji P. Henson wrote, "Love makes me glow because it comes from within." I wrote, "My niece Emma who makes me smile."

Despite being a cad in "He's Just Not That Into You," Bradley Cooper could not have been sweeter. He successfully dodged my shameless flirting. Hey, a girl's gotta try! Don't worry, Alec, it was before you walked in. Bradley does have those amazing blue eyes. He told the ladies over at Blink Tears he has sensitive eyes and that he was an eye drop addict. No wonder those baby blues always look so good.

Everyone was digging the Palm Pre, which just may be the hottest ticket item in Hollywood right now!  You just might see it on "Grey's Anatomy" because I heard Sandra Oh tell Palm to call the show's prop master.

Mickey Rourke stopped in to sign a poster, which he signed Loki for his recently departed dog. So sad. He only picked up one gift, a stay at the St. Regis Monarch in Dana Point, California. It's so beautiful there. I wonder if he will bring his other dogs!? His speech was phenomenal and if you haven't had the chance to catch it, make sure you go on YouTube to watch it. He totally calls out his friend Eric Roberts in the speech saying,

"Eric Roberts is probably the best actor I have ever worked with and I don't know why in the last fifteen years ain't nobody gives him a chance to show his shit again."

Now to be fair Mickey, Eric was just in a movie that made $1 billion, "The Dark Knight." What I think Mickey meant was for someone to give Eric his own movie to headline. Just minutes after the speech Eric came in and told me his wife/manager/boss had six scripts in her hand. I wonder if Mickey will get his 10 percent?!

If anyone is looking for Eric apparently he sees a movie every Friday morning at the AMC Theater. So, he was psyched when AMC gave him a year of free movies with their premiere pass.

It was a fun day but a very, very long one so I was grateful to replace my five inch heels (Eliza Dushku beat me. She had six inch heels!) with a pair of blue Koolaburra boots for the long hike from the tent back to my car. At least it's right next to the ocean though! They are the most comfy things ever. Thanks guys for letting me borrow them! Can't wait for next year's Indie Spirit Awards!
