Thoughts On My 'Dancing' Departure
I have been an athlete all my life, so there was a huge part of me that wanted to continue on. But the doctors also told me that by dancing on a torn meniscus I could risk further injury and permanent, long-term effects. Hearing that, well...yes... I was done for this season, no question.
So many people have written stories saying maybe "Dancing" needs to rethink its training regime. I don't want the show to get criticism. I feel I went into dancing in the best condition that I have ever been in because I had been running 40 minutes a day for 5 days a week. And even though I get to dress up in fancy dresses on Access, I am more of a tomboy in real life. I have been athletic all of my life, so I don't feel the show's training regiment had anything to do with my injury. It just all played out in an unfortunate matter of circumstances in a particular backwards and twisted step I took.
I feel horrible I cannot continue for my dance partner, Tony. He has been an amazing teacher. He promised he will still teach my little girl to dance as she loves to dance and I know she would have liked to see her mama dancing. I am also bummed out because the "Dancing with the Stars" cameras were going to follow me to a Muscular Dystrophy Association event coming up which I am hosting. MDA has a whole ALS division and the charity was there for me every step of the way during my mom's illness, till when she passed away this past June from ALS. "Dancing with the Stars" has millions upon millions of viewers, so I feel badly that all those viewers won't get to see what an amazing charity MDA is. That, I am extremely sad about.
On the positive side, although short, it was a great experience. I challenged myself to take a risk at doing something I have never done before. I now know the waltz and some salsa and I have a new friend in Tony and all the wonderful people on the amazing production that "Dancing with the Stars" is. "DWTS" has always been one of my favorite shows. In this day and age when reality shows are so popular, it is at the top of the game and constantly remains a classy reality show. Hopefully, I'll be able to join the cast next season!
Nancy, I am very sorry to hear about your injury. I know how you must feel. I was wondering what your opinion was on Melissa from The Bachelor taking your place? From what I remember, you like Melissa. Well some of the message boards are talking very rude about Melissa. See here http://www.dlisted.com/node/31041 I understand people have opinions, but to go that far is....I can't even describe in words what it is. I just wanted to know what you thought and if you were going to post or talk about it...and maybe show everyone that you are fine with Mel taking your place. Thanks for listening. Again, sorry about the injury. Will you be able to do it next year?
DEAR NANCY; I`M SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOU INJURY AND THAT YOU HAD TO DROP OUT OF"DANCING WITH THE STARS."I WAS LOKING FORWARD TO WATCHING YOU PUT ON A BRILLIANT SHOW. HOPFULLY YOU`LL BE ABLE TO BE DANCING NEXT YEAR.ANYWAY, HOPE YOUR MINISCUS IS BETTER SOON, AND YOU SHOULD GET TO DANCE AGAIN. YOU DO A GREAT JOB ON ACCESS HOLLLYWOOD.
Hi Nancy,
I was so excited when I heard you were paired with Tony (my favorite pro). I was really looking forward to seeing you dance this season. I was so disappointed when I hear you had to drop out. You were by far the pair I was most excited to see. I was all ready to vote for you.
I'm SO sorry you were injured, and had to drop out. The season's not going to be the same without you. You are handling all this so well. I hope your surgery goes well, and I pray you have a speedy recovery. I really hope you will be in next season. I'd love to see you and Tony dance together on the show.
Take Care,
Joanna
Sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you'll be on the next season of DWTS. I have to leave you a comment after seeing you on DWTS tonight. It was bittersweet. Bitter b/c you weren't the one dancing w/ Tony and sweet b/c you were so supportive of Tony. I hope you recover soon!
Hi Nancy,
I agree with Christy who said it was bittersweet to see you in the audience of DWTS last night. It was sad not to see you dancing with Tony, but it was really sweet to see you there supporting him and Melissa. I really hope you will get to dance with Tony next season. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Keep up the good work on Access Hollywood. With you as a host, it is now my favorite entertainment news show.
Blessings,
Joanna

Nancy, I'm so sorry we won't be seeing you on DWTS. I was truly looking forward to seeing you hit the dance floor. As a mom, i know it's hard to get your body back after baby and you look fantastic! What an inspiration you are-not just for that, but because you're always educating people and spreading a positive message. Best of luck with your surgery and I hope we get to see you back at Access Hollywood soon.
Sorry to hear about you injury. It must be very disappointing, but it doesn't give you the right to give Melissa a hard time during your interview. We all thought she did a great job with only 48 hours to rehearse, don't you think she's been through enough, you could have been more suppotive. Jealousy is not a flattering quality!
Melissa did a great job last night with only 48 hours to practice, regardless of how she got on the show she did better than most who had weeks to practice. In the interview with Melissa, Nancy O'Dell came off as rude, jealous and unsupportive. Melissa stole the show!!

I know this is not the place to post this but i cant seem to find the right place. I was watching an episode that was aired early this morning or late last night where at the end you all where having a conversation about how marriages shouldn't happen if you have only known each other for a month. Well my husband and I disagree with you. We met on Aug. 15 of 1992 and married Sept 24 of 1992. Tomorrow we will celebrate our 17 wedding anniversary and looking forward to celebrating many more years to come. With the 17 years of marriage we have 17 grandchildren together.
