Can Adam Still Win 'American Idol'?

adambottomtwo.jpgSo, last night I see an e-mail from my co-worker Jolie who says that "Idol is shocking tonight!" I don't have the east coast feeds at home, only at work. So, I would have had to wait until 9 PM to find out what the "shock" was all about. Nevermind that. I needed to know right then and there what was going on. So, I e-mail Jolie for the dirt and she informs me that Adam is in the bottom two. At this point I'm pissed and I still am pissed off right now.

Adam has been nothing but spectacular. With the exception of his one bizarro performance of "Ring of Fire" which you either loved or hated, Adam has been consistently amazing. Randy, Simon and Paula have all but handed him the crown. So, why did he land in the bottom two?

It's a debate being waged all over the Internet today. Theories range from the producers putting him there on purpose for shock value, viewers thinking he was safe so they didn't vote, middle America being prejudice because of Adam's sexuality and tween viewers are the only ones who really vote and they just don't get Adam. Personally, I think its a combination of all of those things, with the exception of the first one. I'd like to think "American Idol" has more credibility than to mess with the results.

So, now the question becomes since Adam has been in the bottom two is he sunk? Can the frontrunner no longer make it to the finals or win the whole thing? Based on past seasons, it's difficult but still possible if you go back and look at the stats.

Season One - Winner Kelly Clarkson never once found herself in the bottom two or three. Runner-up Justin Guarini landed in the bottom three on week three but still managed to make it to the finals.

Season Two - Winner Ruben Studdard landed in the bottom two the same week that Adam did - when they were down to five contestants. He still managed the win even though runner-up Clay Aiken was never once in the bottom.

Season Three - Winner Fantasia Barrino landed in the bottom two the week that four Idols remained. Before grabbing the runner-up spot, Diana DeGarmo found herself in the bottom three a total of three times.

Season Tour - Winner Carrie Underwood never landed in the bottom spot.  Runner-up Bo Bice landed in the bottom three only once, during week five of the competition.

Season Five - Winner Taylor Hicks' popularity during the most watched season to date kept him out of the bottom spot the entire competition. Katherine McPhee found herself in the bottom three twice.

Season Six - Winner Jordin Sparks was spared from the bottom the entire competition. Runner-up Blake Lewis landed in the bottom on week seven of the competition.

Season Seven - The only season where both the winner, David Cook, and the runner-up, David Archuleta, never found themselves in the bottom.

Season Eight - as it stands now only Danny Gokey ha never landed in the bottom.

So, Ruben and Fantasia fell victim to the bottom but still managed to pull out a win in the end. While the odds are against him, let's hope that Adam can do the same! Vote. Vote. Vote next week. Please!

Danny will be putting out a Christian CD, not that there is anything wrong with that but I think 75% of the listeners want to listen to Rock or Pop! Adam is in a leguew of his own and every song Danny sings is the same...tape them and see for yourself....
