Dish of Salt

Inside The Idol Taping, Megan Joy Flys The Coop

meganjoy.jpgI have to say last night I think I had the most fun at an "American Idol" taping ever. We got a call that FOX had two tickets for the taping and so, for once, I got to bring along a pal. I grabbed my producer pal Felidette, who is as Idol psycho as me and produces many of our segments on it.

This is a girl who actually bought tickets to the Idol tour. She's the ultimate super fan and she hadn't been to a taping in several years. So, she was the perfect partner in crime! We were like two 16-year-old girls last night. You should have seen how giddy we got when the group number turned out to be "Don't Stop Believin'"! We are both slightly obsessed with that song because of how FOX uses it in their new show "Glee." It gives us goose bumps. We are already obsessed over a show that doesn't even premiere until Fall. Although they are premiering the pilot after the "American Idol" finale May 19. Check out a preview clip here, and my set visit here.

Unfortunately, we missed the Miley Cyrus pre-tape which is too bad because I'm kind of digging her new song, "The Climb." I'll see her tonight though at the "Hannah Montana The Movie" premiere at the El Capitan in Hollywood. She also supposedly Twittered this before her performance: "mileycyrus Walking on to stage wish me luck xoxo about 1 hour ago from TwitterBerry."

Apparently, Miley brought quite the entourage with her backstage. Besides all her band members I heard she had her mom, her sister, three wardrobe people (probably for the band too), a hair and a makeup person, a teacher and a choreographer. Her boyfriend Justin Gaston was on the list to attend but I'm not sure if he made it or not. Ahhh... the life of Miley!

We spotted Jason Castro sitting next to Alexis Grace in the audience and later found out that they would be guests on Fox Reality Channel's "American Idol Extra" which is why they were sitting together. Castro got a friendly hug from Idol vocal coach, Debra Byrd. I also spotted designer Randolph Duke in the crowd and Perez Hilton who somehow managed to actually get on stage right after Lady GaGa performed. I guess he is one of her "people." In fact all the judges rushed the stage for Lady GaGa to congratulate her too. I've never seen that happen before where the judges leaped out of their seats for someone. I really want to know what Lady GaGa looks like up close and personal because from my seat I got the sense that under all that makeup and hair she's actually like a petite little Jewish girl from Long Island named Rachel Shapiro.

I think Megan Joy knew she was toast from the second she got on stage. She had a look of satisfaction on her face all through the taping that said, "I know I'm going home and I like it." The first hint of proof was when she told Simon she didn't care what he had to say. Then he gave her the ultimate zing back by telling her that there was zero chance they would save her, so don't bother singing for them. Ouch!!! I was really hoping at this point she would tell Simon to shove it and walk off the stage. Don't you just wish someone one year would be ballsy enough to do that! Maybe they are contractually obligated to sing or maybe they are just not savvy enough to know the publicity a move like that would generate.

Megan further proved she was ready to leave when she gave a shout out to her two-year-old Ryan that, "mommy's coming home." Yep. She missed her kid and was ready to leave. That's my guess and you can bet I will be asking her about it when I interview her tomorrow morning. Don't worry, I'll ask her to do the "Caw Caw" too.

I think it was a good for America to send Megan home. I just can't see why it took so long to do so. And no she still don't have what it takes and I think she never will.

It kind of amazes me the stuff that gets attention. The U.S. should be doing way more to address the Millennium Development Goals. The plan to end world hunger has been getting seriously ignored.

$30 billion: Annual shortfall to end world hunger.

$550 billion: U.S. Defense budget.

Fact-check: Her son's name is Ryder, not Ryan.

First of all I think Megan Joy knew she was toast from the second she got on stage. She had a look of satisfaction on her face all through the taping that said, "I know I'm going home and I like it." The first hint of proof was when she told Simon she didn't care what he had to say. Then he gave her the ultimate zing back by telling her that there was zero chan, no doubt about this fact
