Susan Boyle's Surprise
I watched with my kids online and cried for her. For all the times she was made fun of in life, the boys who teased her... I created multi-layered scenarios of how lonely and overlooked she has been in life and how this moment was ultimate vindication and emancipation.
This is classic 'never judge a book by it's cover' material. My kids, who are already kind and clique-free in school (thanks mostly to their awesome attentive mom) drank this moment in too.
It's everything you want to say to your children... and both are spared the lecture - just hit play.
I am in Kelowna, BC Canada and just fell in love with Sally Boyle. She is my life-long example of bravery in combat and serenity in ridicule. Jim
That's awesome that Susan can overcome the great obstacles in her life. Unfortunately, millions of children around the world do not get any of these opportunities because they are too poor. The Borgen Project has good info on the estimated cost of ending global poverty:
$30 billion: Annual shortfall to end world hunger.
$550 billion: U.S. Defense budget.
I've watched this video of Susan Boyle about 20 times today alone and everytime I do I shiver. Her voice is spectacular and she sang that song like a pro. BRAVO to her
I cried, too. I've been there. I was once told by a boy in high school that I was the best but least-talented-looking writer he'd ever known. That hurt then. Still does, come to think of it. Years passed and I found my looks, but I will always remember when I wasn't attractive, when no one asked me to any prom, when I didn't get asked out on a single date until college. Oh Susan. Good on ya, mate, as the Aussies would say.
Incredible! Absolutely incredible! There are so many wonderful people in this world with talents beyond measure and they never get recognized. Every person in this world needs to feel important. I hope she wins and goes on to even greater things!
My 15 yr old son and 12 yr old daughter and I listened to it together and we commented that it was like listening to Sarah Brightman. ( Whom we all adore) Close your eyes and her voice is ageless. WOW. We loved it !!!!!!!!!
In doing a little research, I discovered that Susan is the youngest of nine and gave up a career in music to care for her sick mom. Yea!!
This is without a doubt the best " feel-good" experience that I have had in a long time. The brightest stars are sometimes hidden behind the clouds. Way to go Susan!!!
Wow David, you really bring up a good point.
I have think the U.S. should be doing way more to address the Millennium Development Goals. The plan to end world hunger has been getting seriously ignored. That way, more opportunity could be spread to more people.
I too have seen this video well over 20 times, and I've yet keep from tearing up at each and every viewing.
Maybe it's because she reminds me, both personally and physically, of my grandmother, whom I only knew as a small child.
Maybe it's the utterly arresting power of such a sweet voice coming from such a slight and unassuming lady.
And maybe it's the fact that she's just damn good!
Whatever the reason, I suspect that I'll be playing this clip many more times in the near future, and especially when I feel that ever present temptation to host my own little pity party for this or that personal foible.
Here's hoping that everyone who views Ms. Boyle's performance, learns the ultimate lesson of her story...
..to never close the door on a dream.
I have NEVER been so touched!! I, like Simon and the other judges love to see the underdog come on stage and as Susan said, "Rock the audience" and she did exactly as she said she would do. Can anyone see this and not have that wonderful feel good feeling rush through their entire body? I doubt it. If I haven't played this at least 30 times, I haven't played it once and each time is as good as the last. Go for the gusto, Susan. I hope all your dreams come true, you deserve it.
I agree with David! It was fabulous to watch Susan's performance! I just wish others could have such opportunities. The US should be doing more to meet the Millennium Development Goals.
Susan Boyle...I must say she is lookin might hot!! and she has a cute shape too!! it really is true, you can't judge a book by its cover...you go girl!!
