'Change' Disguised As Bigotry?

I'm so tired of people who voice their opinions without the full knowledge of the topic they're speaking about.

Take Miss California for example; I don't have any issues with her voicing her opinion in regards to gay marriage. What bugs me so much is that she has now become the flag bearer for all of those who champion mindless rhetoric and oppose "CHANGE" in our society, without really knowing anything about the subject.

I know... I know... we've heard the word "CHANGE" many a time during this past election season. But let's face it, "CHANGE" is what was needed in this country from The President on down.

Let's say, for example, Carrie Prejean (Miss California) was in this same pageant 60 years ago and she was asked if she believes that inter-racial marriages should be allowed.  Now, if she took the same approach as when she answered the question on gay marriage, how would we view her and her comments?
Today in our classrooms, in our text books, on TV, radio, and the Internet we look back at that part of our history with shame and disdain for all of those that "voiced their opinions" at the time against inter-racial marriage because their opinions were immoral and of a narrow world view.

How will we look back to this era, 60 years from now? Let me tell you, it will be with shame and disdain!!!

I, for one, would never want to have to tell my children and grandchildren that my vote or my opinion was used to block true happiness for others. So, Miss California, pipe down and stop using this political and social firebomb of a topic as a vehicle to advance your personal/career agenda.

I know this topic is one that brings out many emotions, but it definitely got my writing juices flowing! Look for my future blogs, where I'll be sure to tackle less sensitive topics.

Well...okay.... I would think their were better ways to share your "opinion" on what change needs to happen and people that might see things differently than you do.
I happen to strongly feel that marriage is between a man and a woman....I hold strong to that standard and moral and b/c I believe in it I will not waiver just to appease someone else... If I did not stand up for my beliefs with FULL conviction than that makes me a hyprocraite... So I am proud of how she stood up for what she believes in without speaking rudely to anyone else. I have to admit I found your post WAY more rude and offensive than her statement....it has nothing to do with our differences but how you approached her...the situation...and people that might see life a tad differently than you do.
I have many friends that see things differently than I do ...but we can come together with respect for each other without compromise ....
I believe in "CHANGE" as well....I feel our country...our families desperately need "CHANGE" but I see "CHANGE" as God softening the hearts of His people and us realizing that we need Him and we can't make up our rules and standards as we go along....that their are absolutes ......

I agree with Ashley Thomas. Personally I believe that marriage is bet weeen a man a woman. I feel that marriage is a religious feature. I don’t believe that marriage should be recognized by the government. Straight couples and Gay couples should all be under domestic partnership. Therefore its not shove down throats of conservatives of "Gay Marriage" and therefore its not shove down liberals throats of what marriage should be. You have equality for all and keeping both sides happy.
