Jillian Harris Talks About Her 'Bachelorette' Experience
We've known for a while that Jillian Harris is the new "Bachelorette." We now know who her 30 bachelors are. What we don't know is how Jillian is handling being at the helm of ABC's flagship dating show.
That is until now.
Last month I had a chance to speak to Jillian during one of her group dates about her journey to find love on a reality show.
DOS: OK, let's just start out by asking the question everybody wants to know. Did you do the hotdog test? (Jillian's famous theory that you can tell a lot about a man by the condiments he uses on his hot dog)
Jillian: Actually, the hot dog thing really hasn't come into play yet. I love my hot dog theory. Problem is that I thought I wanted a mustard, but I don't know what I want now. So yeah, there's a few ketchups in the house, a few mustards, a few sauerkrauts, even an onion or two.
DOS: How has it been being on the other side?
Jillian: I'm having a lot of fun. I really thought that I would be a little like, 'anxiety and awkward,' but there's something about this group of guys that just allows me to be myself.
DOS: Is there anybody that you've kissed yet?
Jillian: Oh, you have to wait and see! Maybe, maybe not.
DOS: Is that a concern for you? You don't want to be one of those people that kisses too many guys!
Jillian: Well, you know what? Unfortunately, I'm not really here about the reputation. I'm here to find the one I'm going to spend the rest of my life with.
DOS: You gotta test out the goods!
Jillian: I think you gotta test out the goods and you know what?... I think I'm going to follow my heart. I'm going to make the right choices and if I have to kiss a few guys, then that's a tough life!
DOS: You have 30 guys this season?
Jillian: This season there were 30 guys.Yeah there was a few extra thrown in the mix.
DOS: So, how at the cocktail party do you get time enough to get to know whom you want to meet? That's difficult.
Jillian: That's the hardest part of all of this, you know? Sometimes you get distracted and you think, 'Oh, this is fun, there's all these guys.' But I keep on having to remind myself I need to find those qualities I'm looking for. So I just, you know, I go as hard as I can all night, keep myself awake. I think of all the questions I need to ask.
DOS: So, who is your perfect guy?
Jillian: Oh gosh, that's the million-dollar question. The perfect guy, I think, is a great communicator, has a great sense of humor. I want that connection. Having a big heart and somebody that has a lot of empathy, other than that you know, open field. I used to always say tall dark and handsome. I thought I had a type physically, but now that all these guys are here, I realize the physical part isn't really as important to me as personality.
DOS: Do you worry that -- when it gets down to the final two -- about making that same mistake that Jason made where you pick the wrong person and your heart tells you, 'Oh my gosh! What did I do?'
Jillian: I think that's part of my biggest fear is picking the wrong person or being in love with two people. I know that it's possible. I mean, there's not just one person out there for me, there could be several and I want to choose the person that is best for me, but who knows -- I mean -- what happened to Jason happens to us in real life and I really really hope I make the right choice, I'm going to follow my heart, I'm pretty sure I will.
DOS: So you're not a soul mate believer? You're not a person who believes that there's just one person for you out there?
Jillian: No, I don't know if I believe that there's just one person. There are so many people in this world that have such wonderful qualities, you know there are some people that have said, 'I found my soul mate,' and I believe them. But I know that I'm kinda a multi-faceted girl and there's a lot of great guys out here. Ask me today and I'm not sure who I would pick yet.
