Just When You Thought It Was Over...
"American Idol" is back already.
Here it was I thought I was going to have a nice little break from all the insanity, but it turns out it was short lived.
I got an e-mail this morning announcing that "American Idol" auditions begin June 14th in Boston, Mass. My eyes bugged out like a cartoon character and I could hear horns blowing in my head when I read the date. What? June 14th? I thought, 'Wait, am I reading this right? Shouldn't it be July 14th?' Alas the date was correct.
Boston, MA Sunday, June 14 Gillette Stadium
Atlanta, GA Thursday, June 18 Georgia Dome
Los Angeles, CA Tuesday, June 30 Rose Bowl
Orlando, FL Thursday, July 9 Amway Arena
Denver, CO Tuesday, July 14 INVESCO Field at Mile High
Chicago, IL TBD TBD
Dallas, TX TBD TBD
Fortunately, this gives me until June 30th to mentally prepare to check out the LA auditions. For more info go to www.americanidol.com.
They never started auditions this early. Also, the list of cities includes only major U.S. hubs that they have been to before; no new cities, no smaller Southern or Midwestern cities (which is where they found the last two winners), and no exotic places like San Juan or Honolulu. The whole thing looks like a rush job, and it seems that they want to start and finish auditions as early as possible this year. I think it's the first season that cattle calls begin before the Idols Live tour kicks off, and that audition cities and venues were in place before the past season's finale. It's all very strange.
