Bravo's 'Miami Social' - 'The Hills' For Thirty-Somethings
I'm with Anderson Cooper. I love NeNe! Sheree is way too uptight, Kim is delusional and Lisa is too nice. They rightly gave the boot to DeShawn who was just way too sweet to be on a reality show. And now a new housewife, Kandi Burress, joins the diva-licious group this season. I can't wait to see what drama goes down.
Until then, I've got a new Bravo reality show to keep me occupied, "Miami Social," which premieres tonight after "NYC Prep." Notice that the buzz has died down on "NYC Prep" as I expected it would since absolutely nothing interesting goes down on that show. We'll see if "Miami Social" suffers the same fate. The show follows seven 30-something (or so they say) friends as they make their way through the Miami social scene, which not shockingly, includes drinking, clubbing, boating, sunbathing and partying.
Apparently, they have run out of interesting reality show stars as not one, but two, of the friends have been on other network reality shows. Katrina Campins made it to sixth place on the first (and most buzzed about) season of the "The Apprentice." Hardy Hill was a contestant on season two of "Big Brother." Campins' close pal Michael Cohen, an openly gay celebrity journalist, joins them on the show. Mortgage broker George French and his ex-wife Sorah Daiha, fashion producer Ariel Stein and bi-sexual photographer Maria Lankina round out the gang.
Not much happens in the first twenty minutes of the show other than setting these people up as shallow scene-sters. However, the show seems to find it's footing when it delves into personal relationships. Campins is in the processing of divorcing her husband and business partner Ben Moss. Though something seems fishy with this whole scenario (and I wouldn't doubt if they are taking a page from "The Hills" not-so-real-reality show format) and I wouldn't be shocked if it was all part of the storyline. It won't surprise me one bit if at the end of the show they end up back together.
French is in a toxic relationship with a crazy Russian girl named Lina who lies to him about going to New York City for a business trip. She was really in St. Bart's on a yacht "entertaining clients" as part of her job working for a development company. George turns to his ex-wife Sorah for advice, which angers her boyfriend. All three just happen to live in the same building. Hill is in a long-term relationship with a girlfriend (who looks just like Kristen Wiig from "SNL") who has babies on the brain. Cohen's relationship issue is that he can't find a relationship (just like me!) while Lankina deals with her 13-year-old daughter going off to boarding school.
Like all Bravo shows.... it's train wreck TV that you just can't turn away from -- no matter how hard you try... well, at least if you are a reality show junkie like me.
