Inside Michael Jackson's Public Memorial
Hearing Michael Jackson's daughter Paris speak of him the way she so emotionally did, I pondered 'why didn't we get to hear from her earlier?'
The answer is locked in the cynical eye: it would have come off to way too many as forced, a PR stunt. But little Paris was 100% on credibility. Her tears for her dad painted a different picture of Michael for many.
The memorial was probably too much for some. Of course, it was not impartial. There will be more debate and questions in the media, scrutiny and inquest in the coming weeks, but this was a nice breather. Paris Jackson's tearful goodbye is the indelible moment, but Usher on one knee in front of Katherine Jackson and Brooke Shields' emotional recall of her childhood friend and Jennifer Hudson and Mariah's beautiful songs, all were pretty powerful.
Rev. Al Sharpton was gripping, full of bombast and fire. He broke through. Marlon Jackson's "maybe now they'll leave you alone" line to his kid brother was powerful.
I hope the helicopters have left my neighborhood (yes, Encino...a half mile from the Jackson family house) cuz we all need to hang with the family and sleep.
We all hope and pray that Michael Jackson will now rest in peace and that his kids will be able to move on with their lives. It is hard for them to lose a father like Michael because they knew that their father has done everything to make them all happy.
I was pleasantly surprised by the memorial. I thought it was going to be a "show", but it truly was a nice and respectful send-off.
It's a shame that he lost touch with Brooke throughout the years -- it seems that she would not be afraid to call him on some of his silly behaviour.
Though some of the speeches were a little over-the-top (i.e. Rev. Sharpton), Paris & Brooke made me cry. With all the media hoopla surrounding his life and his death, it is sometimes easy to forget that Michael Jackson was also a father and a friend.
My 4 brothers and I grew up with Michael's music. My father who past away and my mother loved him too. They didn't understand him because they only spoke spanish but his music and dance and shinny clothing inspired my parents to watch him and listen to his music. Today I am 40 yrs old ,have a family of 4 girls and 3 boys who also love Michael in all aspects. I wish he would have done his tour so I could have gone to see him with all my family. I have always believed in him. I have always thought that people with that big of a heart usually don't live long because God only takes with him good people. God took my father at 50yrs old too. He was very giving, kind, caring, honest exactly how Micheal was. They both belong high up there. Hope to see you one day up there too. God will bless and take care of all your family for ever because of all the good you did here in this would. You are the best not only in music but inside out and that is the greatest treasure you can have and you gave your children the gift of giving ,showing them to love the world, people etc. Rest in peace now... Love you much.... The Latino Family in Santa Ana, CA The Diaz Family.
I really believed that now that The King of Pop is dead and we all took part in this wonderful Memorial Service that the press could finally let him rest in peace. Yet I am watching your show not something I do often when I hear all the sensational headlines for tomorrows show. Learn all the secrets about Michael JAckson. Do you really think that WE CARE whether this or that about him now. He is was the worlds greatest performer and why can't you all just now let him REST IN PEACE
I would like to say to the Entire Jackson Family and friends my prayers go out to all of you at this time of bereavement. I know he was the king of pop and the greatest entertainment of all times. I have listen to his music since early 1970's. He has done so much for people all over the world. He was an extraordinary individual from his music to just being an human being just like everyone else in this world. He has taught people how to love through his music. I want to truly think his mother and father for giving him to the world to share with us his talent, his love, and his kindness. I know he will be in our hearts forever. I loved when I saw him in person at RFK stadium in Washington, DC. when he did the Victory tour. Just to see all the his brothers together with him was just wonderful. I just want to say Godspeed and God Bless you all. To his children just remember you father the way he was for the 3 of you. The whole world his mourning him not being here, but he his legacy will live on in our heart and in our minds.
Good day Michael and we all know you are looking down on us and smiling and saying i will be there when ever anyone need a song from him or smile.
I definetely do not think that Micheal's daughter planned to speak, nor did the family know until that moment. Last year, my 18 year old nephew passed and we had an eerily similar memorial. At the end, my 9 year old stood, walked on stage and spoke similar words to Paris about his cousin-His idol. Young minds with so much sadness can only speak heartfelt simple words. thanks, Billy. LT
I would say Micheal Jackson did his best in protecting his children and making them comfortable.
Well, they will always be comforted that their farther loved them so much and also their grand parents.
At the public memorial service of Micheal Jackson it was made known that the world loves Micheal.
But talking about resting in peace, it is something we do not know for sure because that i can always tell you is beyond human comprehension.
Was Micheal a believer in Christ Jesus?, that is the number one step to resting in peace when we die.
Irrespective of who we are, where we are from, the color of our skin, our accent, our profession, our race, etc, the word of God must stand.
Actually i am saying these because of those alive, as a matter of fact Micheal is no more.
Now that we are living let's be sure on the side we belong. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ leave your life like one.
However, everyone out there can agree with me that hundreds, thousands,or millions of people die and we say same Rest IN Peace, to be frank, only those that are gone beyond this world can explain how there looks like but unfortunately we that are living can not have an idea If those that die not accepting Jesus Christ as their lord and personal savior ever Rests in peace .
Mind you i love Micheal Jackson so much.
I truly felt touched by Paris speaking.. I have two children 3 and 14. They are hurting so bad I know.. I know that Michael Jackson was a great father. I hope the children can stay with the family. I have been listening to Michael Jackson's songs a lot since his death... and watching his videos... He truly was and always will be the best entertainer... Thank you so much Michael....We love you and will miss you .....
I have been hearing the media questioning the parental of Michael's 3 children. My view on this who cares who the natural parents' are, to those children Michael was their father and to Michael those are his children. Just let the children be now, they are grieving for their daddy.
My children are adopted, execpt for one that is my biological, I love all my children the same, no matter if I gave birth to them or not. My youngest girl (adopted) is learning she had a birth-mom and she cries because she didn't come from my tummy. We tell our children that we prayed for a boy and girl and that they are what god gave us. all my children are aboriginal our youngest doesn't even look aboriginal, but we know he is because his mother is my niece, but his dad is white.
So what if Michael's children look white, who is to say that they are not African American, their mom sure is white, they could take the genes from her. oh yeah she is supposable not the birth mom but a women that carried the baby for 9 months, the real mom is most likely is white, but again I don't care who the real birth parents are neither do those children. so again I say leave those babies be, leave them to morn their daddy.
May god be with those babies at this time of their grieving...Amen
may GOD BLESS and heal the broken hearted in the time of need and put his powerful blood and arms from there head to there feet i ask this in JESUS NAME I PRAY AMEN and AMEN
billy is that the only thing on ur mind after the death of the most talented man in the world and how could that be a pr stunt god michael luved his kids
so its not a pr stunt how insensitive
I for one did NOT watch the memorial for MJ.The man was a great person, albeit he was DIFFERENT, I would like to know where all these stars were in his darkest hours, during his trials? As I recall the only one that stood by him was NOT at the service. Liz taylor truly loved him. I am glad that people found solace in the services, especially family. But all those bleeding hearts were not around when je needed them the most.
when i heard about his death i had cried myself. when i was in the second qrade there was a club at my school with a group of students who made good grades. and we were all choosen to be in performance troup. the group is all about singing and dancing. i finally got chossen to be in the group when i was in the fourth grade. we learned how to do the thriller dance. we sung a lot of his songs.
