Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney Pitch Love At 35,000 Feet

When I left for the airport my mom says to me, "that's how you are getting on the plane? What if you meet someone!" Mom didn't like the comfy, casual clothes I had chosen and the fact that I put no makeup on. I tried to explain the last thing I want to do when I get on a claustrophobic, poor air circulation, dirty plane is put pore clogging makeup on and sexy, yet uncomfortable clothes. Besides, I haven't had a cute, single guy sit next to me on an airplane in well, ever. I did once have a not cute, divorced racecar driver ask me out on a plane from Las Vegas to Burbank. Needless to say I declined his invite to dinner.

My mom does like to remind me that our host Nancy O'Dell met her husband Keith in the security line at the Burbank airport. I've never gotten so lucky. I did meet two adorable single gals last night who helped pass the time on the five hour flight as we shared our dating dilemmas with each other. Actually, come to think of it, the guy next to me on the opposite aisle was kind of cute but he turned out to be married. So, my record of hot airplane hookups remains at 0 for 100.

However, Air New Zealand thinks they can change my luck. The airline is offering the first ever "Matchmaking Flight" where lovelorn singles can mix and mingle to try to find 'the one' as they jet from Los Angeles to New Zealand on October 13. For $580 (if you book by July 15 - my birthday) you can fly roundtrip to Auckland and flirt with potential love matches as well as get a ticket to something called the Great Matchmaking Ball on October 16.

Nothing says romance like being trapped in a confined space for 12 hours with 300 plus strangers you may or may not be interested in getting to know. I get cranky on a five-hour flight; I can't imagine trying to be pleasant for 12 hours. Top top it off, Air New Zealand has invited (i.e "paid') The Bachelor's Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney to join the flight and offer dating tips. Of course, they have reminded us that the couple fell in love in New Zealand on the show. So, what better people to join the flight, right?

Yes, just what I need - dating tips from a guy who changed his mind about which girl he wanted and then thought it would be an okay idea to break the other girl's heart (Melissa Rycroft) on national television. No thanks.

On the bright side they will be offering an open bar on the plane.

OK, sure so I'm knocking it because I'm a bitter Betty, but some folks apparently think finding love in an airplane is possible (unlike Aerosmith who think "Love In An Elevator" is the way to go). Singletons have been uploading their profiles to www.thematchmakingflight.com - which essentially just makes this online dating where instead of meeting at Starbucks for a latte they are meeting at 35,000 feet.

My only question is who will be the first couple to join the mile high club?
