My Day Out With An Emmy Nominee
Yesterday I had one of the most fun shoots ever. I don't think I stopped laughing for one second. We took first time Emmy nominee Jim Parsons from CBS's "The Big Bang Theory" on a little adventure. The show shoots on the Warner Brothers lot where they give daily VIP tram tours. You get to go on the lot and see the places where "ER", "Gilmore Girls", "The Adventures Of Lois and Clark" and many other shows and movies were filmed. You would think an actor working on the lot would have seen this stuff by now, but it turns out they work so much inside their soundstages they typically haven't ventured around the lot much.
So, Jim and I hopped on a tram tour with our tour guide Daniel. Just before leaving I presented Jim with an Emmy good luck charm, a little tiny stuffed monkey which I presented by saying, "don't monkey around... you better win an Emmy!" He loved it and we nicknamed him Shelly (after Jim's character Sheldon Cooper). I told Jim he should have the wardrobe department whip up a little tuxedo for Shelly and bring him along to the red carpet.
Our first stop was the town hall where they filmed the original Batman TV series with Adam West and Burt Ward. We ran up the stairs and then did a fake TV fight so later when we air the segment I can add in the infamous graphics they used to always use on the show with words like "Pow!" and "Kabaam." Then, we found out that Frank Sinatra had filmed on the stairs as well and Jim did a little dance maneuver on the staircase. He's pretty darn light on his feet. Who knew!?
Next, we stopped off at the props department where under lock and key they house the Central Perk set from "Friends." On the way we commandeered someone else's tour group. I heard the teenage girl in the group was so star struck by Jim she had to leave. We thought it was because we were boring them with all our "Friends" trivia. We plopped down on the Central Perk couch for some "coffee" and then Jim went to sing his rendition of "Smelly Cat" but thought better of it since it's really only Phoebe's song to sing.
Our final stop along the way was inside the picture car museum. The second the door popped open we both exclaimed, "Wow." Inside were cars from movies like "The Dark Knight," "The Matrix," "Scooby Doo" and "Harry Potter" and classic TV shows like "The Dukes of Hazzard." If only we could have driven them off the lot! However, all we could do was look (but not touch). Inside they have a green screen where they take a picture of you as if you are in one of the cars. In our case we had to pretend that the General Lee was flying over the top of us. Jim's face is classic but you'll have to wait and watch the piece to catch of glimpse of it. Coming soon!
I've met Jim a few times but this is the most time we have spent together. I think most people would assume he is as uptight and odd as Sheldon Cooper but trust me he is not. He's funny, witty and quite charming. I'll be cheering him on Emmy night, hoping that he takes home the Best Actor Comedy prize. Hopefully my good luck charm will seal the deal!
