Why You Must Watch 'Glee' Tonight

glee3.jpgIf you don't watch "Glee" tonight I might quit the entertainment business.

If enough people don't tune in and then FOX is forced to cancel, I'll be so angry I don't think I'll be able to do my job anymore.

You see I need this show in my life. All these non-stop reality shows have warped my brain. I'm starting to think that like "The Bachelorette," I can find true love and get engaged in six weeks. Like "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," I can gossip and gripe about my friends behind their backs and they'll still be my girls. Like "The Hills," I can get on a reality show and all of a sudden get invited to cool parties and have people send me free clothes. As the former infomercial pitchwoman Susan Powter used to say -- "Stop The Insanity!"

I ache for a good, lighthearted, fun scripted show and then along came "Glee."

It landed on my desk back in May and ever since I popped that DVD into my TV set, "Glee" has been on my brain. Every time I hear "Don't Stop Believin'" play somewhere, I think of the joy it gave me to watch these delightful group of misfits come together at the end of the pilot and prove they can be winners. It gives me chills just thinking about it now. So why do I love this show? Let me count the ways for you.

#1 - It's funny. Really funny. - Jane Lynch should easily find herself with an Emmy nomination next year for her role as the self-centered head of the Cheerios, Sue Sylvester. It's not even what she says, it's how she delivers the line. "You think this is hard? I'm living with Hepatitis! That's hard." Only Jane can make that line funny. Wait 'til you see how she handles her new gig on a local news show in future episodes.

#2 - It's dark - I don't want to give away any spoilers because this one is a doozy, but the lengths that Jessalyn Gilsig's character Terri (teacher Will's wife) goes to keep her marriage together rival any storyline on "Nip/Tuck" when it comes to subversiveness. Oh and just to prove my point without using a spoiler ,how about in the pilot when Will framed the school's quarterback with drugs to get him to join the Glee club?

#3 It's poetic - Look, we all know that high school can be hard between the hormones and the class caste system and "Glee" takes a long hard look at those perpetual social norms with poetic lines like when Sue said to Will, "Let your Glee kids have their little club, but don't pretend that any one of them are something they're not."

#4 It's heartfelt - It certainly will come as no surprise that Mark Jacobs-loving fashionista Kurt is gay, but when he comes out of the closet to his he-man dad in episode three its a true tear-jerker with an unexpected twist.

#5 - Lea Michele - We named her our Accesshollywood.com Rising Star this week for a reason. She shines in this show as Rachel Berry from her outstanding vocals (she's a Broadway vet) to the way she looks so innocent but can be so devious and narcisstic.

#6 - The music rocks - And they know how to use it. Unlike "High School Musical" and "Grease," people don't just bust out in song for no reason in this high school.

So, please watch "Glee" tonight because I like my job and I'd like to stay in the business for a little while longer.
