On my final day at Comic-Con I hit up the "Lost" panel where I may or not have been privy to information about the new fifth season. You'll see why in a minute. "Lost" is my favorite TV show of them all right now. Devotees waited in line up to six hours for the chance to sit in on this panel. Don't get me wrong; I love the show -- but certainly not enough to wait around that long. Fortunately, I breezed past the line of sweaty, tired people and went in through the VIP entrance twenty minutes before it started. I'm an entertainment industry snob, what can I say.
(BTW - if you don't watch "Lost" you should probably stop reading this right now and I won't be offended. You won't get any of this.)
Of course, the cast and crew won't start filming again for another three weeks. So, really how much can you learn before cameras roll? Well, at Comic-Con you at least have the opportunity to learn a little information because fans get access to the Executive Producers, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. These are the only two guys who have this all mapped out and figured out in their heads. They have picked an end date for the show and know that only 34 hours remain for it.
So, you would think the "Lost-ees" would come armed with all sorts of questions like "Where did the island go?" "Is John Locke really dead?" Or most importantly, "Why does Jack want to go back to the Island so badly?" Instead, I was severely disappointed in the Q&A that went on during this panel. No one really asked the tough questions. Instead they threw out fairly softball questions. It was almost to the point where I thought maybe the people who were given the opportunity to ask questions were plants by ABC.
Last night was the big two-hour season finale of "Lost." Here at "Access Hollywood" we've got a large group of Lostees. After each episode we debate over email what we have seen and our theories on the show. Take a peak at what staffers here thought about how season four wrapped up.
EM: One Word: Awe-SOME. Two Words: Kicked-@$$. Three Words: Awesomely, kicked-@$$
BH: Loved. I guessed right for who Jeremy was but needed a bit more at end.
EM: Was it me or was Jack's future beard look, what's the word, uneven?
SH: Jin sooo is alive!
EM: You are wrong, sir. Michael. Jin. Locke. ALL dead, Oh, and eerie Claire, too is pushing daisies. And great moment when Penny and Desmond reunited. Ah, love.
MM: Not dead. They're the undead. In another realm.
DOS: Much ado about nothing. I thought the buildup of "we have to lie" and Kate saying she doesn't want to think about “what happened on the island that day” made it seem like a hell of a lot more bad happened. And Really? They moved the island. Come on. Next we'll find out Aliens were involved. Whatev!
EM: Welcome back, “Lost.” You have been missed. Just thought I'll bring some things up from last night's premiere, “The Beginning of the End” (episode's title). Hurley had a Flash-Forward. 6 islanders got of the island; 3 that we have seen (Jack, Kate & loveable Hurley). "I am one of the Oceanic 6!" We got a glimpse at a breadless, pre-"We've got to go back" Jack. Jack's dad was rocking out in Jacob's chair in the cabin in the jungle. Hurley picked the wrong team when the islanders split up. Was the "it" Hurley was referring to in his flash-forward the island or some other mysterious force we have yet to see? Jack was really going to shoot Locke (okay, so maybe this isn't something of importance, but how cool was that moment). Matthew Abbaddon, Oceanic lawyer, is introduced (played by Lance Reddick from “The Wire” [great show on HBO])
Abbaddon, or Abaddon as found in the Book of Revelations, is the chief of the demons of the seventh hierarchy, often called the Destroyer and referred to as the King of the Locusts in the Revelations. Burning question: What the HELL happened on the island?, that no one wants to talk about it!!
BB: Very happy it's back for a teasy 8 episodes, but didn't enjoy that they opened with a Hurley episode and a “Dukes of Hazzard” scene at that. Was anyone at all disappointed?? For me, it seems like every three seconds someone is jumping out of the bushes to challenge the group or take the gun advantage away from the current big person on campus.
AJ: Funny. My wife immediately said is this “Lost” or “Dukes of Hazzard?” Also-- Island seemed very small last night-- everyone found each other so quickly. So close. I am just glad it's back!
BB: Exactly. One thing I think the show needs to do is chill out a bit. There are so many switcheroos that real big moments don't feel as big. Example: Naomi climbing a tree with a knife in her back or knife wound and then dying right after she makes an important phone transmission is lame. These nick of time moments are getting overdone.
If you are desperately awaiting tonight's show and have no interest in hearing anything about it then you best be clicking off this page in case there is a spoiler or two. I'll keep them to a minimum though as even I don't like to read spoilers.
If you want just a taste, then keep on reading. "Beginning of the End" is the appropriate title for this nail-biter of an episode that begins like the season three finale ended, in the future. How far into the future it is won't be revealed until later into the episode. Back on the Island, Hurley will be dealing with the loss of his friend, Charlie, and taking it very hard. An event will divide the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 into two camps, which may or may not affect who gets off the Island.
