Pitiful. Pit-i-ful. P.I.T.I.F.U.L. Ugh!
Some kind of way I got sucked into watching "The Bachelor" and the thing is, I ENJOYED it.
I consider myself a strong woman. Empowered. High self-esteem. So, the whole notion of 25 women flying thousands of miles to all live in one house together, begging some strange guy that they have never met before to please, PLEASE, PLEEEEZZZ give me freaking flower so I can feel good about myself is, well, it's just a foreign concept to me.
But there I was, curled up in front of the television wondering, wagering who it was gonna be. Which gal would get the rose and Jason's proposal?
It's down
to the finale three -- Jillian, Melissa and Molly, who last night all flew to
New Zealand for their fantasy dates with Jason.
First, we
have to suffer through an interminable recap of Jason's feelings for all three
women.
Jason thinks
Jillian might be too strong and independent for him. Why do guys have such a
problem with these types of women!?
As for Molly, Jason seems completely smitten and just wants her to open up more to him. Melissa on the other hand, Jason says he is "leery of girls like her." He's not sure if she is ready to settle down but his biggest problem with her was not being able to meet her family. Melissa says its because her family is very private but Jason thinks other issues might be lurking.
Jillian is
first up on the fantasy date roster, which in the past has not been a good
spot. By the time the Bachelor or Bachelorette gets to the final fantasy date,
the first person is out of sight and out of mind.
So, I have to say I'm just a tad bit bitter about "The Bachelor" these days for personal reasons I won't get into. So, rather than being giddy with anticipation about the return of a show I love to hate (but secretly love) - now, I'm going to feel like its a show I have to watch instead of actually want to watch. Although, I have a feeling that once I watch that first episode on January 5, I'll probably be sucked right back in and throw my personal bitterness out the window.
This morning ABC released first details about what we can expect this season with 32-year-old single dad Jason Mesnick in the driver's seat. In an interview with People, Jason revealed he's in love and engaged. I'm not exactly sure why ABC wanted to spill the beans about the engagement before the show started airing. Maybe they thought it would legitimize the show with the worst track record ever when it comes to finding lasting love.
Now, technically this makes proposal number four for Jason. He was engaged to someone else once, married once, tried to pop the question to DeAnna Pappas on "The Bachelorette" and now this new girl. Maybe the fourth time will be the charm. He's been engaged more times than I have had serious relationships. I'm technically zero for zero on engagements. There was that one time in Hawaii on a second date with someone I met on a business trip but that doesn't really count - although it did make for a great story that my former boss Ryan Seacrest got to tell on his radio show. Ah, but I digress, back to Jason's journey.
Now Matt thinks he has found the one. The 28-year-old Brit, who made the move to Los Angeles, tells In Touch magazine he has found love again. Grant has been dating publicist Sarah Robarts, 39, for the past four months. He told the magazine, "I have never been happier."
According to In Touch, his manager introduced the pair. Sarah is the president and founder of boutique firm Ballantine PR, which has worked with Matt.
Four months? That number seemed strange to me. I inquired with an ABC publicist if this story was indeed true and learned it was.
"Yes, I can confirm that Matt has been dating Sarah for four months now."
Something seems fuzzy here. Learn why after the jump...
Ever since DeAnna Pappas chose 26-year-old snowboarder Jesse Csincsak over 32-year-old single daddy Jason Mesnick on the season finale of “The Bachelorette”, fans have been lobbying hard for him to become the next “Bachelor.” Well, ABC listened to the letters and hordes of emails and the fans are getting their wish. Jason will get a second chance at finding love on reality television. He has been officially chosen as the next “Bachelor.”
Unfortunately, it will be a long wait to see his journey as the thirteenth go round of the show will not return until January 2009. The good news is that since production has not begun yet this gives ladies who might be interested in meeting Jason a chance to audition for the show.
He is certainly not the typical “Bachelor.” Jason will be the first single dad to step into the choser role. He will not be the first divorcee though, as Bob Guiney was also divorced when he became "The Bachelor" in season four after he became a fan favorite during Trista Rehn's (now Sutter) "Bachelorette" stint.
Jason is a father to three-year-old son Ty, living in Seattle, Washington. It’s certainly risky for ABC to put a single father and his son out there in such a vulnerable position again but I’m hearing the show may actually film up in Seattle to not disrupt Ty’s life too much.
This morning on a conference call with reporters, the happy couple was bombarded with questions about the show's poor track record. Not a single of "The Bachelor's" twelve unions has actually ended up in a marriage. Only one even remains intact (Byron and Mary). Ten ended up breaking up. But Shayne defended their union telling reporters, "We are engaged and we are going to get married and its forever."
Don't expect a wedding anytime soon between "The Bachelor's" Matt Grant and his chosen one, Shayne Dahl Lamas, who admit they are in no rush to the altar. 27-year-old Matt popped the question last night on the show to 22-year-old Shayne with a 2.85-carat, 60 thousand dollar platinum and diamond Tacori engagement ring. He chose the perky blonde actress (daughter of actor Lorenzo Lamas) over sweet and sporty Chelsea, who left bitter and unhappy.
ABC promises that next Monday night's episode of "The Bachelor: London Calling" will be "the most romantic finale ever"! Of course, they also consistently make these annoying proclamations about it being the "most ever" something in practically every episode. So, 'Don't believe the hype,' is what I'm saying here people.
However, it has been revealed that the 27-year-old British "Bachelor," Matt Grant, will propose to one of the final two remaining ladies - which include 24-year-old pharmaceutical sales rep Chelsea Wanstrath and 22-year-old actress Shayne Llamas (daughter of Lorenzo Llamas). I'm sure ABC wanted us to know their would be a proposal since last season's Bachelor, Brad Womack, brutally dumped both his babes at the end of the show.
This morning, on a conference call with reporters, I had the chance to personally grill Matt about his engagement. Apparently, some tabloids have been reporting that he proposes to one of the ladies (I think Shayne) so he can marry his way into becoming a U.S. citizen. I hadn't read these reports at all though, when I jokingly asked Matt if he was proposing to get himself a green card. After a hearty laugh Matt launched into a rant against the tabloids,
"That was the most farcical rubbish I have ever read in my life. I took real offense to that because they were calling me a fraudster. I thought in the U.K. you could sue people for that because of defamation of character, but hey, I think that’s part of the process of being in Hollywood isn’t it? Even if I'm here for a limited time."
I also took him to task by asking if he felt it was proper to propose to someone when he has admitted he was in love with two women. Shouldn't the person you ultimately pledge to spend the rest of your life with be someone you are in love with 100 percent?
I'm having a small mental meltdown this morning after frying my brain cells while staying up to watch "The Bachelor: London Calling." Why am I still watching this show? I think I need an intervention. For some reason, I can't look away. It's train wreck TV, at its best.
Last night was the hometown dates with the final four. Bachelor Matt gets a chance to meet the families of each of the women he is still interested in: Shayne, Amanda, Noelle and Chelsea. I bought into all those promos last week hyping the fact that bachelorette candidate, Amanda's, mother was going to pull a full on cougar on Matt Grant and pounce. At one point they show her rubbing his chest and then actually going in for a kiss - just as her husband walks out and catches them in the act! Now this was reality TV at its juiciest, the type of stuff a producer dreams about while taping. I couldn't wait to see it. You can't make this stuff up.
Except, apparently, you can because it was all BS!!!!!!! Amanda had hired actors to pretend they were her parents and have his mom hit on Matt. The ridiculous shenanigans were revealed last night. Amanda (Oh, and let's really be honest… we know the producers made her do it) wanted to play a trick on Matt because he told her he loves pranks. The whole thing was BOGUS! I'm pissed. How dare they toy with my delicate emotions!
ABC has
chosen it's new "Bachelorette" and just like the last several girls
chosen for the show, she's a familiar face. 26-year-old DeAnna Pappas, who
failed to find love on last season's "The Bachelor," is the chosen one.
Pappas made it all the way down to the final two women only to find out that
Bachelor Brad Womack had rejected both she and Jenni Croft, her competition.
Why this
Campbellsville, Kentucky native would put herself through this torture again, I
have no idea. The last two “Bachelorette’s” both ended up single.
Jen Schefft
rejected both of her suitors' marriage proposals in the show's season three
finale. Season two’s Merideth Phillips got engaged to banker Ian McKee only to
breakup after a year together.
Then again, the very first Bachelorette, Trista Ryan, remains the show’s only true success story -- having married her hot fireman, Ryan Sutter. The couple recently had a baby, Maxwell.
